Come Join In The Fun, Free Bike Safety Rodeo Saturday, May 11th



Join the Door County Silent Sports Alliance and the City of Sturgeon Bay Police Department for a FREE bike safety rodeo on Saturday, May 11th. This bike rodeo is geared for children 3rd through 7th grades. Children will watch a video on bike safety; then will learn through hands-on experience about the rules of the road, hand signals, and safety. Helmet fittings and bike checks will be completed as well.

Rodeos will take place at 9:00 am, 10:15 am, 11:30 am, and 12:45 pm. Space is limited to 40 participants in each session If interested, please sign up in advance for the session of your choice at the Sturgeon Bay Police Dept., at 746-2450, Monday * Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, or call TJ Walker Middle School at 746-2806. Walk-ins are welcome. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of a session.

Kids will need to bring their own bikes with them in good operating condition: tires inflated, seats adjusted properly, etc. Upon completion of the bike safety rodeo, children will receive a Bell Bike Helmet donated by Cellcom, and Habush, Habush & Rottier, SC.

With Bike to School Day being May 15th, now is the perfect time to learn to become a safe cyclist!

Officers Investigate Burglary To Crossroads


On April 28, 2013 at 11:32 AM, Officers were dispatched to a Burglary at the Crossroads. Upon arrival Officers found that someone had broken into one of historical sheds. Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For Theft


On April 20, 2013 at 11:39 PM, Officers were dispatched to Econo Foods for a theft. Upon arrival Officers observed store surveillance footage of an individual concealing items including bottles of liquor in his coat and exiting the store. Officers familiar with the individual from prior Police contacts identified the man as a 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man.  Officers arrested the Sturgeon Bay man for Misdemeanor Retail Theft and cited him with Possession of Synthetic Marijuana. The 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Officers Investigate Found Child


On April 28, 2013 at 12:22 PM, Officers were dispatched to the area of Superior Street for a found child. Upon arrival Officers found that a child had been found wandering the neighborhood and the neighbors couldn't locate any parents. For over an hour neighbors and Officers checked the neighborhood for the parents without luck.

Eventually Officers were alerted to a residence in the neighborhood where a man was lying unresponsive on the porch. Officers made contact with the male who was intoxicated. Officers found that the 23 year old Sturgeon Bay man had walked to the location and had fallen asleep on the porch with his child nearby. Officers arrested the 23 year old man for Child Neglect and Felony Bail jumping as he had violated his absolute sobriety requirements of his bond. The 23 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail. The child was reunited with the mother a short time after making contact with the man.

Sturgeon Bay Woman Arrested After Court




On April 22, 2013 at 9:30 AM, Officers were dispatched to the Door County Justice Center for a female who might be violating her bond conditions. Upon arrival Officers made contact with Deputies working court security. The Deputies believed that a 30 year old female had been drinking alcohol, which is in violation of her bond conditions.

Officers made contact with the 30 year old Sturgeon Bay woman named Andrea Webber. Webber was given a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a .14 amount. Webber was arrested for Felony Bail jumping and brought to the Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Police Announce New iPhone & Android App Is Now Available To The Public




The Sturgeon Bay Police Departments newest tool to keep the public informed about whats going on in our community is now available right on your Android or iPhone.

The app has 24 possible features and options.  Some of the features include department contacts, push notifications, feedback & tips forms, as well as options to retrieve information from FEMA, the National Weather Service, and the National Terror Advisory System.  Other uses include links for wanted persons, videos, and blog posts.

The phone application or “app” can be downloaded free by searching for My Police Department or MyPD in the iPhone or Android marketplace. You can also click on the images above to download the app directly for your Android or iPhone device.  The police app is available to the public free of charge and is also free of any advertisements.  Once downloaded you simply navigate to Wisconsin and select the Sturgeon Bay Police Department.

“This police app is a great addition to our agency” said Public Information Officer Chad Mielke  “We can now push out notifications and alerts and the public has a variety of ways to contacts us. The goal of our MyPD app is to give the public a one stop app option with plenty of features and to open the lines of communication.”

Users can choose not only the Sturgeon Bay Police app, but they also have the option to view other police departments on MyPD by choosing a different city or state. The app defaults to the last agency viewed upon opening, this makes it easy to always open just to the Sturgeon Bay Police Department. 

The department home screen contains a number of features with more located in the bottom menu which activates upon touch or swipe.

“Our app’s submit a tip or questions and feedback features allows a user to choose a topic from the forms drop down menu that best suits them and that message will then be routed to the correct Officer.” Said Officer Mielke.   “Forms can be sent anonymously to the department, but we encourage an email address or phone number if you would like a response. Users also have the availability to upload photos with the app tip and feedback forms. “

As is the case with email, tips, and social media, our app is not for any type of emergency situation. The Sturgeon Bay Police app is for routine questions and information sharing. 9-1-1 is always the method for emergency situations or response.

Chilton Man Arrested After Disturbance


On April 21, 2013 at 8 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 4th Avenue for a physical disturbance. Homeowners had reported to dispatch that a male and female were physically fighting in the front yards of the nearby residences. Officers arrived on scene and placed the Chilton man in custody. Officers searched for the female, but were unable to find her. Officers transported the 27 year old Chilton man to the Door County Jail where he was booked into the jail on a Probation Hold. The 33 year old Sturgeon Bay women later contacted Police reference the incident. Officers continue to investigate the incident.

Emergency Vehicle Fun Day-- May 5, 2013

The Door County Sheriff’s Department is proud to announce the Fourth Annual Emergency Vehicle Fun Day.  Let the young kids sit in a Police Car, fire up the siren in the Fire Truck, turn on the lights in the Ambulance, sit in a United States Coast Guard Boat, check out the Eagle III Helicopter and Civil Air Patrol Aircraft, and do so much more!  For the older kids, take the opportunity to meet the many professionals on site and inquire about a potential career in their field of expertise.  Sonny’s Pizzeria and Marchant’s Meats of Sturgeon Bay will also be on hand selling food and drinks.  This promises to be GREAT family fun that will not cost you a fortune.  We hope to see you there! 

Man Cited For Drugs After Click Or Ticket Stop


On April 20, 2013 at 6:55 PM, Officers working Click It Or Ticket stopped a vehicle due to the driver not wearing his seat belt. Officers identified the driver as a 24 year old Denmark man. During the course of the traffic stop, Officers conducted a consent search of the vehicle and found drugs and drug paraphernalia  inside the vehicle.  Officers cited the 24 year old Denmark man for Drug Possession and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The three passengers were also issued citations for not wearing their seat belts.

Traffic Alert--Oregon Bridge Closed



On April 20, 2013 at 6:32 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Oregon Bridge for traffic control. Officers found that the bridge was having some sort of unknown malfunction. The City Street Department will be placing barricades up and traffic will be rerouted over the Michigan Street Bridge. It is unknown when the Oregon Street Bridge will reopen for traffic.

Security System Scam, Targets The Elderly


On April 18th 2013 at 4:34 PM, Officers were dispatched to residence in the 300 block of Hudson Avenue for a scam. Upon arrival the complainant informed Officers that she had received a phone call from a security company stating a security system would be mailed to her and a person would be coming to her home to install the device. While talking with the female who had an accent, the complainant became suspicious and hung up and contacted Police. The phone number used in the scam was 920-636-4415.

Officers contacted the company, which stated they were a medical alert company for the elderly. Officers spoke to a representative from the company who stated they wouldn't be sending anyone to the complainants residence. About an hour later Door County Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the county to handle a similar scam attempt. Officers attempted to contact the original number again, but it was disconnected.

After a quick search on the Internet for the phone number revealed multiple scam attempts using the same phone number:

"We received a call from 920-636-4415 this evening. Message on our machine said: "We are trying to deliver an 'Emergency Medical Alert System' that someone ordered for you and paid for. We need to know if you would like it delivered to you. Press ' 1' for yes, '5' for decline" No one I know has ordered this for me. I had 2 or 3 calls from this same caller today".

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.

3 Arrested For Thefts From Target


On February 26, 2013 at 9:51 AM, Officers were dispatched to Target reference thefts. Upon arrival Officers were given DVD's containing footage of individuals stealing items from the store. Officers reviewed the footage and identified the suspects involved in the thefts. The complainant stated to Officers that thousands of dollars worth of product had been stolen.

After an extensive investigation by investigators a search warrant was obtained for the residences of the suspects.  In the residence Officers recovered numerous pieces of stolen property. As a result three Sturgeon Bay women 46, 29, and 20 years of age were arrested on multiple charges of misdemeanor retail theft. The three women were transported and incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

2 Arrested After Disturbance


On April 18, 2013 at 1:30 AM, Officers were dispatched to a residence where a female and male were in a physical altercation. After interviewing both individuals Officers arrested a 46 year old Sturgeon Bay Woman for Disorderly Conduct.  After arresting the female, Officers learned her friend a 55 year old Sturgeon Bay man was on Probation and had been drinking with her. Officers later arrested the 55 year old Sturgeon Bay man for violating his Probation. Both individuals were incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested 2nd OWI




On April 15, 2013 at 6:40 PM, Officers stopped a vehicle on Third Avenue at Alabama Street for speeding. Upon making contact with the driver Officers detected an odor of alcohol coming from him. Officers attempted to conduct field sobriety tests, but the driver refused. Officers administered a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a .21 amount. Officers arrested the 54 year old Sturgeon Bay man on Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 2nd Offense.

Juvenile Arrested After Threatening Officer With Knife


On April 7, 2013 at 1:54 PM, Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence on the east side of Sturgeon Bay. As Officers were en-route dispatch advised Officers that a juvenile male was inside the residence armed with a knife and was threatening his parents.

Upon arrival Officers found that the male was attempting to leave out a rear door in the garage. Officers who were in the back of the residence were just about to open the rear door when they encountered the male in the doorway. The juvenile male raised his arm with the knife at the Officer. Confronted with the deadly force situation the Officer drew his service weapon and ordered the male to drop the knife, which the juvenile male did. Officers arrested the juvenile for Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct. The juvenile was incarcerated at Brown County Juvenile Detention Center.

Chief Porter states, the Officer who encountered the armed male exercised a tremendous amount of restraint especially when the juvenile was only a few feet away and the situation was clearly a deadly force situation. Thankfully this situation ended without anyone seriously getting hurt.

Bike Patrol Nabs Two Sturgeon Bay Men


On April 12, 2013 at 9:30 PM, Officers on bicycle patrol detected an odor of burnt Marijuana in the alley way between third and fourth Avenue. While investigating the matter Officers made contact with two males who were attempting to avoid Officers. One of the males was identified as a 20 year old Sturgeon Bay man who had been drinking in one of the bars downtown. Officers cited the 20 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Underage Drinking and arrested a 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man for violating his absolute sobriety requirements of his Probation. The 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

4 Arrested On Multiple Drug Charges Including Possession of Heroin


On April 9, 2013 at 11:24 AM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of Florida Street for a Disturbance. Upon arrival Officers made contact with a 61 year old male and a 65 year old female who were both involved in a physical altercation. During the course of the investigation, Officers were made aware of drug activity inside the residence. Officers were given permission to look inside the residence and found Heroin, Marijuana, variety of pills, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia inside the residence. While inside the residence Officers found two other family members who were also arrested on drug charges. The following individuals were arrested and incarcerated at the Door County Jail:

Michael Ashe, 61 years old.
Possession of Medication With Out Prescription. 
Possession of Narcotics.

Jemma Weiland, 65 years old
Possession of Heroin 
Possession of THC
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 
Possession of Medication With Out Prescription. 

Victoria Weiland, 24 years old. 
Possession of Heroin 
Possession of THC
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

Beau Weiland, 33 years old.
Possession of Heroin 
Possession of THC
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

April Designated As Sexual Assault Awareness Month



- Every 2 minutes, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted.
- Approximately 54% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police.

Recently Officer Krah from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department did a series of presentations at Green Bay area schools. Officer Krah reminds us that the month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent it. Forestville Man Arrested For 3rd OWI


On April 1, 2013 at 12:01 AM, Officers were dispatched to a possible drunk driver travelling on Third Avenue. Officers found the vehicle described to them by the complainant and made contact with the driver a 29 year old Forestville man. While talking with the driver Officers detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver.  Field sobriety tests were administered to the driver, which he failed. A preliminary breath test (PBT) was administered and it indicated a .19 amount. The 29 year old Forestville man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 3rd Offense and was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For Felony OWI



On March 31, 2013 at 12:15 PM, Officers on patrol stopped a vehicle in the Walmart Parking lot because Officers had recognized the driver as being revoked for prior OWI's. Officers made contact with the driver identified as Timothy J. Medd and found the 52 year old Sturgeon Bay man had been drinking. The passenger inside the vehicle had also been drinking and wasn't able to drive. Officers administered field sobriety tests to Medd who failed. Officers administered a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) to Medd, which indicated .25 amount. Officers arrested Medd for OWI 5th Offense and incarcerated him at the Door County Jail.

2 Sturgeon Bay Men Cited For DC & Meddling


On March 31, 2013 at 7:00 AM, Officers were made aware of videos posted on Facebook showing individuals breaking gallons of milk in Walmart and Econo Foods. The complainants were upset that the individuals who posted the videos intentionally caused the damage and that it wasn't accidental. Officers met with Econo Foods and Walmart who stated they did have problems with adults ranging in age from 17-20 overnight. Officers obtained security footage from both stores and compared it to the Facebook videos obtained from the suspects.  Officers found that in all of the situations the individuals had intentionally took milk and smashed the gallons of milk onto the ground inside the store.

During the investigation Officers found that Walmart has had multiple incidents involving milk spilling around the country.  Due to these types of incidents, Walmart has lost money due to lost product and damage done to other products in the area of the incident.  Officers cited the 2, 17 year old Sturgeon Bay men with ordinance violations for Disorderly Conduct and Meddling with Property.

Officers Investigate Attempted Break In To Residence


On March 31, 2013 at 7:58 AM, Officers were dispatched to an attempted break in to a residence in the 100 block of 7th Avenue.  On arrival Officers observed the rear glass screen door on the patio damaged.  Officers also observed a large amount of broken glass and blood on the siding of the house and exterior door. Officers took evidence from the scene and attempted to follow the footprints left from the suspect in the snow. Officers lost the foot prints and blood trail as the suspect(s) crossed into the alleyway near Michigan Street.  Officers later found that a neighbors dog had began to bark aggressively at someone or something around 4 AM. The person responsible for the attempted break in should have cuts and lacerations to their hands and forearms.

Officers Investigate Theft At Jim Olson Motors


On March 29, 2013 at 8:26 AM, Officers were dispatched to Jim Olson Motors for a Theft complaint. Upon arrival Officers found several employees looking at Silver Cadillac in the parking lot. Officers found that over night someone had taken the front wheels off of the Silver Cadillac.  The rims were polished aluminum rims and the tires were Premium Nitros 235/50 ZR18. Due to how the suspect(s) took the tires off the vehicle it sustained minor damage.

Sturgeon Bay Woman Cited For Obstructing An Officer


On March 28, 2013 at 3:15 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department for a personal injury accident. Upon arrival Officers met with a 18 year old female who stated she had been walking out to her vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart when a vehicle had struck her back of her leg as it backed up. The women was limping and complaining of pain in the left knee while speaking to Officers inside the Police Department. Officers took the complaint and began to investigate the matter. Officers obtained footage from Walmart and found that the incident never took place.  Officers cited the 18 year old female for Obstructing An Officer.

Woman Arrested For Felony Bail jumping


On March 27, 2013 at 10:35 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence on Neenah Avenue for a dispute between family members. Upon arrival Officers determined that an argument had taken place over the process of taking care of a family member. While Officers spoke with the individuals involved, Officers found that the 30 year old woman who had contacted Police had been drinking alcohol.  Due to bond conditions of absolute sobriety the 30 year old woman was arrested for Felony Bail jumping and transported to the Door County Jail where she was incarcerated.

Fraudulent Tax Return Complaints


Over the past few weeks Officers have taken numerous complaints about tax returns being rejected by the Internal Revenue System (IRS) due to social security numbers being stolen. This is a common problem during tax time and as of last year its reported that the IRS has sent out billions of dollars worth of fraudulent returns. If you are victim of this type of fraud here are a few tips to follow:

  1. Contact the IRS and explain your situation to them. 
  2. Contact the Social Security Administration and explain your situation to them. 
  3. Request credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, and then set up a fraud alert. 
  4. File a Police Report with the Sturgeon Bay Police Department. 
  5. Contact the Federal Trade Commission and submit an ID theft complaint https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

Door County 911 Services Restored


The Door County 911 Center phone lines have been restored and everything is back up and running.

Door County 911 Center Is Currently Down...Calls Being Rerouted!



All 911 calls and phone lines to the Door County Dispatch Center are down! Calls being made to 911 are being transferred to Brown County 911 Dispatch Center. Rest assured if you have an emergency Officers, Paramedics, and the Fire Department will respond. Officials are currently working on the problem and are hoping to have it fixed soon. We will update once the problem has been rectified.

Officers Respond To Accident On Highway


On March 23, 2013 at 6:24 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Highway and Oxford Avenue for a PI Accident. Upon arrival they observed a vehicle in the north ditch. Officers assisted the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department with extricating the unresponsive man from the vehicle.  Officers determined the man suffered a medical emergency, which led to the crash. The Sturgeon Bay man was transported to the Door County Medical Center for evaluation.

Sturgeon Bay Woman Arrested For OWI


On March 23, 2013 at 2:15 AM, Officers working downtown were dispatched to the area of Jefferson Street and Third Avenue for an intoxicated motorist. Upon arrival numerous pedestrians were pointing to a vehicle. The pedestrians and a nearby taxi driver stated the driver could hardly walk and was now driving the vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with a 25 year old female driver.

While talking with the driver Officers detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her. Officers attempted to administer Field Sobriety Tests (FSTS), but the driver could hardly stand due to her intoxication level. The driver was issued a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a .20 amount. The 25 year old female driver was arrested for OWI and assisted to the squad car. The 25 year old female was transported to the Door County Jail.
