Kewaunee Man Arrested For Felony Bailjumping.


On June 22, 2013 at 1:22 AM, Officers were dispatched to a suspicious complaint of a man hiding between houses watching a residence in the 500 block of Huron Street. Upon arrival Officers were told that a man later identified as 20 year old Donald Gronke had fled on foot leaving his bicycle in the street. Prior to fleeing, Gronke attempted to start a fight with a male onlooker.  Officers learned later that the Gronke had ridden his bicycle from Kewaunee to Sturgeon Bay and had violated his bond conditions after attempting to make contact with a party who lives in the area. Kewaunee County Sheriffs Deputies were able to find Gronke and arrested him for the Sturgeon Bay Police Department. Officers took custody of Gronke and transported him to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated on Felony Bail jumping.

Officers Looking For Suspicious Male


Officers are currently looking for Donald W. Gronke, a 20 year old Kewaunee man who was last seen in the 500 block of Huron Street. As of last night, Gronke was wearing a light blue t-shirt, dark blue hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans. The public is not in danger, but Officers are asking citizens to call 911 if you see Gronke or know of his whereabouts.

Phone Scam Alert-Microsoft Employee To Fix Computer



Recently Officers have been dispatched to complaints reference phone scams where a male or female caller contacts the individual and states he is from Microsoft and needs to log into your computer to fix some unknown problems. This type of phone call is a scam and you will never get a call from a Microsoft employee to fix your computer. If you do have problems with your computer please seek help from one of the many local computer repair services in Sturgeon Bay. 

Sturgeon Bay Woman Arrested For Battery


On June 16, 2013 at 10:45 AM, Officers who were operating the lights on Madison Avenue at Maple Street were approached by a male who wanted to report a Battery. The male told Officers a 57 year old Sturgeon Bay woman had taken his dog and had struck him in the face causing his glasses to become damaged. Officers made contact with the Sturgeon Bay woman and determined that she had indeed struck the man multiple times in the face after she had an issue with the mans dog. Officers arrested the Sturgeon Bay woman for misdemeanor Battery and transported her to the Police Department where she was released.

Bike Safety Rodeo This Saturday at 9 AM, Sunset Park


Join the Door County Silent Sports Alliance and the City of Sturgeon Bay Police Department for a FREE bike safety rodeo on Saturday, June 22nd at 9 AM, Sunset Park, Sturgeon Bay. This bike rodeo is geared for children 3rd through 7th grades. Children will watch a video on bike safety; then will learn through hands-on experience about the rules of the road, hand signals, and safety. Helmet fittings and bike checks will be completed as well.

The bike rodeo will take place at 9:00 am. If interested, please sign up at the Sturgeon Bay Police Department or call the PD at 920-746-2450, Monday-Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. Walk-ins are welcome. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the rodeo.

Kids will need to bring their own bikes with them in good operating condition: tires inflated, seats adjusted properly, etc. Upon completion of the bike safety rodeo, children will receive a Bell Bike Helmet donated by Cellcom and Habush, Habush and Rotier S.C.

Now is the perfect time to learn to become a safe cyclist!

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested Following Disturbance


On June 16, 2013 at 2 AM, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of 7th Avenue for a possible fight in progress.  Upon arrival Officers made contact with a large group of people who were drinking alcohol outside. Officers identified one of the males as a 25 year old Sturgeon Bay man who Officers knew had absolute sobriety as a condition of his Probation. Officers arrested the Sturgeon Bay man on a Probation Hold. The 25 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Making Threats


On June 17, 2013 at 1:17 AM, Officers were dispatched to the Cherry Lanes Bar for a man who had come into the bar carrying a handgun in his pants. Upon entering the bar the man told bar patrons that he was armed with a 9 mm firearm. The man later told the employees of the bar that he had killed people in the past and would kill people now if need be. At one point the male lifted up his shirt and employees of the bar were able to observe a firearm in the mans pants. The employees of the bar contacted Police and Officers responded to the location. Upon arrival Officers found the 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man hiding in a pinsetter in the back of the bowling alley. Officers arrested the 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man for misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct and a Probation Hold.

Jenniece Hoiska Retiring


After almost 25 years of service to the community of Sturgeon Bay, Jenniece Hoiska the Police Departments Office Manager will be retiring July 5, 2013. Jenniece has been a dedicated Police Department employee, who has provided tremendous support and service to all of our Police Officers, fellow city & county employees, citizens, and visitors.  If you get a chance to drop by the Police Departments front desk please do so and wish Jenniece a happy retirement.

Marine Patrol Recovers Boat


On June 15, 2013 at 4:44 PM, Marine Patrol Officers were dispatched to the shipping canal for a boat that was unoccupied and floating in the canal. Officers responded to the area and found a small boat a drift. The boat was identified as the same boat being used by workers working on the Bayview Bridge. Officers towed the boat back to the bridge where it was secured.  

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Disturbance


On June 15, 2013 at 1 AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of Cherry Lanes for a fight. Upon arrival Officers found that the individuals involved in the fight had fled.  Officers checked the surrounding area and made contact with a 34 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was intoxicated and had injuries to his face from the altercation. Officers determined the Sturgeon Bay man had been kicked out of the bar after trying to pick fights inside. Officers found that the Sturgeon Bay man was on Probation and wasn't supposed to be drinking alcohol. Officers arrested the 34 year old Sturgeon Bay man on a Probation Hold and transported him to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI and Heroin Possession After Accidents



Spencer Graf, 22 years old. 

On June 14, 2013 at 6 PM, Officers were dispatched to two accidents with possible injuries on Maple Street.  Upon arrival Officers observed the first accident scene, which occurred on Madison Avenue at Maple Street and it involved a car versus a motorcycle. The second accident scene occurred as the striking vehicle in the first accident had fled the accident scene and struck another vehicle on Lansing Avenue.

Upon investigating the accident scenes Officers determined both accidents were caused by the same driver identified as a 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man named Spencer Graf. Both accidents were caused by Graf failing to yield the right away. Both vehicles in the second accident were moderately damaged and had to be towed away from the scene. The motorcyclists who were struck in the first accident weren't injured, but their motorcycle did sustain some damage to the side of it due to the collision.

A canine handler from the Wisconsin State Patrol who was working in the area for Click It Or Ticket assisted Officers by running his canine around the vehicles involved in the accident. The canine alerted to Grafs vehicle. A search of Grafs vehicle by Officers found a small amount of illicit drugs. Officers who were working the accident noticed Graf was acting strange. Based on statements from the other driver involved in the accident. Officers determined Graf had hidden something in the nearby bushes. A search of the bushes by Officers revealed a small green bag. Inside the green bag Officers found syringes and Heroin.

Officers administered Field Sobriety Tests (FSTS) to Graf, which indicated Graf was impaired by drugs. Officers arrested Graf for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and transported him to the Door County Jail. Graf was booked into the Door County Jail on Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), Hit and Run, Possession of Heroin, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Graf was cited with numerous citations including Failure to yield right away and Operating While Suspended.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For Theft


On June 10, 2013 at 1 AM, Officers were dispatched to Econo Foods for a Theft. Upon arrival Officers were told by store employees that they had ran after a 19 year old Sturgeon Bay man who had stolen alcohol from the store. The Sturgeon Bay man when confronted by employees denied stealing the items and fled in a nearby vehicle. Officers observed video surveillance and were able to find the 19 year old Sturgeon Bay man at a friends residence. Officers arrested the 19 year old Sturgeon Bay man for misdemeanor Theft and ordinance Underage Possession of Alcohol.

Missing Person Has Been Located

 
On June 11, 2013 at 11:34 AM, Officers were dispatched to a Missing Person incident at 525 N 19th Drive. Upon arrival Officers were told by the assisted living staff that a 52 year old male named Thomas Bronk had fled from the location towards 18th Avenue. Officers were told by the staff that Thomas does have medical conditions that would make it very difficult for him to live outside of the assisted living center. Sturgeon Bay Police, Sturgeon Bay Fire, and Door County Emergency Services all participated in a search of the east side of Sturgeon Bay. After 2 hours of searching, emergency personnel found Thomas. Thomas was confused, but in overall good health. Officers would like to thank everyone who helped in this matter.

Attempt To Locate Missing Person

Last Seen: 11:25 AM on 06/11/13 walking west from 19th Drive towards 18th Avenue.

Officers are currently looking for the following male who has just left an assisted living center in Sturgeon Bay. The 52 year old male named Thomas Bronk left an assisted living center walking west towards 18th Avenue. Thomas was wearing a heavy blue coat, black Harley Davidson Shirt, Blue Jean shorts, and tennis shoes. Thomas doesn't have any relatives in the area and does have a medical condition. Officers are asking the public for their help in finding Thomas. If you have any information please contact the Police Department at 920-746-2450.

Sturgeon Bay Man Injured After Bar Fight


On June 9, 2013 at 2 AM, Officers who were working a hit and run accident were dispatched to a large fight behind the Nautical Inn and Bar. Upon arrival Officers observed a large group of people behind the bar, but the fighting had stopped. Officers were told that the individuals involved had fled and one of the males a 23 year old Sturgeon Bay man had been beaten up pretty bad.  The injured male was taken to Door County Medical Center by private vehicle. Officers later learned that the fight had started inside the bar and had spilled out into the parking lot. Once outside the bar multiple individuals began fighting resulting with the 23 year old being injured. Officers issued misdemeanor citations to a 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Disorderly Conduct and Battery. The 23 year old injured Sturgeon Bay man was also cited for misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct and Battery. Officers expect additional people to be arrested in this matter.

3 Cited For Bar Fights Downtown


On June 8, 2013 at 2 AM, Officers were dispatched to a bar fight downtown behind the Nautical Inn and Bar. Upon arrival Officers observed multiple people involved in a fight downtown.  Upon arrival Officers quelled the disturbance and began to investigate the matter.  Officers determined the fight began inside the Nautical Bar and then spilled outside. Officers cited three males from Green Bay for ordinance Disorderly Conduct.

3 Cited For Possession Of Drugs


On June 5, 2013 at 10:38 PM, Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on Georgia Street for drug activity. Upon arrival Officers made contact with three juvenile males who were found by Officers to be smoking Marijuana in a shared basement of an apartment complex. Officers cited the three juvenile males for possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Bar Fight With A Knife



On June 1, 2013 at 11:10 PM, Officers were dispatched to Dutches Bar for a bar fight where a man had a knife. Upon arrival Officers found two bar patrons holding a Sturgeon Bay man on the ground. Officers arrested the man on the ground and identified him as a 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man. Officers interviewed bar patrons and found that a bar fight had started after the 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man became upset over  another man having a conversation with his wife. Bar patrons refused to provide further information. Officers arrested the 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man on misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The 42 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Reckless Driver Arrested For OWI


On June 1, 2013 at 6:20 PM, Officers were dispatched to a reckless driver on Egg Harbor Road. As Officers responded to the area of Egg Harbor Road, they were made aware that employees at a business on Egg Harbor Road had observed the driver and believed he was very intoxicated. Officers found the vehicle and stopped it in the Apple Valley Lanes parking lot. Officers made contact with the 37 year old Egg Harbor man and detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. Officers administered Field Sobriety Tests (FSTS) to the driver, which he failed. Officers issued a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a .22 amount. Officers arrested the 37 year old Egg Harbor man for Operating While Intoxciated (OWI).

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI


On June 1, 2013 at 2:55 AM, Officers investigating a Domestic Abuse incident overheard a car driving recklessly nearby. An Officer began to investigate the reckless driver and found the vehicle on Maple Street at Duluth Avenue. Officers stopped the vehicle for failing to stop for a stop sign and made contact with the driver. The driver was identified as a 49 year old Sturgeon Bay man who Officers had contact with earlier in the night for another incident. While talking with the Sturgeon Bay man, Officers detected an odor of alcohol coming from him. Officers administered Field Sobriety Tests (FSTS) to the driver, which he failed. Officers gave a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a .10 amount. Officers arrested the 49 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and transported him to the Door County Jail.

Officers Investigate Disturbance At Movie Theatre


On May 31, 2013 at  7:48 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Sturgeon Bay Cinemas for a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers were told by the complainant that three juveniles were being disorderly inside one of the cinemas. Officers escorted the three juveniles from the cinema and determined the juveniles had been harassing moviegoers inside. At one point the juveniles began to tease the complainants about sexual orientation and had taken one of the complainants phones. The three juveniles were escorted out of the Sturgeon Bay Cinemas and issued warnings for Disorderly Conduct.

Sturgeon Bay Marine Patrol Hits The Water!




With the weather becoming increasingly warmer the Sturgeon Bay Marine Patrol will be out on the waters of Sturgeon Bay patrolling. Marine Patrol Officers will be out looking for violations of the no wake ordinance (Shown Above On Map In "Yellow") and other safety violations such as intoxicated boaters. Marine Patrol Officers remind everyone to have a safe and fun time while out enjoying the waters of Lake Michigan.

Officers Investigate 3 Car Accident On Bridge


On May 30, 2013 at 2:26 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Oregon Bridge for a three car accident with possible injuries. Upon arrival Officers found that the traffic had started to back up on Oregon Street causing vehicles to come to a stop. Due to this a truck travelling too fast, failed to stop in time and struck the rear end of the first vehicle causing damage to both vehicles. As a result of that accident a third vehicle following to close slammed into the truck causing damage to both the rear end of the truck and the front of the third vehicle. The third vehicle involved was towed from the scene. All three drivers were checked for injuries by Door County Paramedics and released.

The drivers of the second and third vehicle involved in the accident were cited for inattentive driving and following to closely. Officers remind citizens of frequent backups while on the Bridge Detour route. Furthermore Officers remind citizens to slow down as these accidents could have been prevented if the drivers had been doing so.

Officers Investigate Accident w/Injuries


On May 30, 2013 at 12:06 PM, Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Maple Street and Madison Avenue for a two vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival Officers found that a  motorcyclist was attempting to turn left onto Madison Avenue from Maple Street when he was rear ended by a vehicle behind him. Due to the collision the motorcyclist fell over onto the ground injuring himself. The motorcyclist transported himself to the Door County Medical Center (DCMC). The driver of the vehicle a 56 year old Sturgeon Bay man was cited for Operating While Revoked Due to OWI.

Sauk City Woman Cited For Theft


On May 29, 2013 at 8:19 AM, Officers were dispatched to Econo Foods for theft. Upon arrival Officers were informed by the complainant that she had accidentally left her wallet in the women s restroom inside the store. When she realized her wallet was gone, she returned to the restroom finding the wallet missing. The complainant found her wallet at the front desk, but the money was missing from it. Officers observed security footage and identified a 46 year old female Sauk City woman and a 59 year old Sturgeon Bay man as suspects. Officers made contact with both the male and female and determined the 46 year old woman had indeed stolen the money from the wallet. Officers recovered the money and issued a ordinance citation to the Sauk City woman for Theft.
