Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Foot Chase

On January 18, 2013 at 12:00 AM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Maple Street. Upon arrival Officers were informed by a taxi company that a male had refused to pay for his taxi. Officers made contact with the male and determined the man had been drinking, which was in violation of his bond conditions. While attempting to get the 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man some shoes he took off running. Officers pursued the man through the nearby yards and Officers took him into custody after a brief foot chase.  The Sturgeon Bay man was arrested for Felony Bail jumping, Obstructing Officers, and cited for failing to pay for a taxi.  The 22 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After School Canine Sweep

On February 21, 2013 at 8:30 AM, Officers were assisted by two State Patrol Canine handlers in conducting a canine sweep of the lockers and vehicles at Sturgeon Bay High School and Middle School. Both of the canines provided for the sweep are trained in detecting drugs. The canine sweep consisted of sweeping 900 lockers and about 100 vehicles, which were in the parking lot. Inside the school the canines alerted on none of the lockers. Outside the school canines alerted on three of the vehicles parked in the parking lot.  In two of the vehicles, Officers found drug residue inside the vehicles. Inside the third vehicle Officers found a baggy of green leafy substance identified later as Marijuana and a green candy bar later identified as edible Marijuana. Officers arrested an adult male for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Controlled Substances On Or Near Certain Places.  The male was transported to the Door County Jail where he was booked into the jail on those charges. The School canine sweep is done on a annual basis and will be done by the Police Department again in the near future.

Scam Alert

On January 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 blk of 5th Avenue for a fraud complaint. Upon arrival Officers were informed about a man named James Pasta who the complainant had met via a social network. During the course of the conversations the man stated he was going to Germany and he wanted to send money to the complainant. At some point the complainant received a check for a large sum of money. Upon receiving the check the complainant contacted Police due to the suspicious situation. It was later determined that the check was fraudulent.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never send money to anyone without knowing the person who you are sending it to. Make sure to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI, 5th Offense

On January 12, 2013 at 5:56 PM, Officers were dispatched to McDonalds for an intoxicated driver. Upon arrival Officers made contact with a 38 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was inside his vehicle with his two children. Officers determined that the man had been drinking and Officers had the driver conduct field sobriety tests (FSTS). During FST'S, a preliminary breath test (PBT) was administered, which indicated a .12 amount. Officers arrested the 38 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 5th Offense. The 38 year old male was incarcerated at the Door County Jail on felony charges of OWI 5th Offense w/passenger under 16 yrs old.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI At SBPD

On January 12, 2013, at 2:30 PM, Officers were investigating a harassment complaint and had contacted a 40 year old Sturgeon Bay man to come to the Police Department for an interview. While interviewing the man an investigator became suspicious that the man may be intoxicated due to the odor of alcohol coming from the man. The investigator notified an Officer of his findings and the Officer had the 40 year old Sturgeon Bay man conduct field sobriety tests (FST's).  A preliminary breath test (PBT) was issued to the man, which indicated a .11 amount.  The 40 year old Sturgeon Bay man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and a Probation Hold and was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

If your 14 to 20 years old in High School and are interested in becoming a Police Officer we are looking for you! The Lakeshore Police Explorer Post 9368 is conducting ongoing recruitment for Kewaunee and Door Counties kids to come join in the fun.

The Explorer Post is designed for groups of young men and women ages 14 through 20, to get hands-on experience in the law enforcement career.  Monthly meetings are held to show students the different aspects of law enforcement and what duties and responsibilities the student would have if he/she chose this career.  The program includes presentations and hands-on activities in the following areas:

• Traffic stops
• Accident scenes
• Crime scenesd
• Traffic control
• Drug investigation
• Jail/Communications

Police Explorers wear uniforms to the monthly meetings and also at public functions.  Explorers may be used for public functions such as parades, fairs, and community programs.  At these functions, Explorers may be asked to do traffic control, give out information to the public, or help agencies within the county and the programs they have. The Explorer Post is a non-profit organization that runs on donations and fundraisers held by the members.
