Juveniles Arrested For OWI and Drug Possession
On July 22, 2012 at 11:30 PM, Officers who were on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle pass the Officers squad. As the vehicle passed the Officers squad the rear passenger lunged forward and appeared to be doing something near the seat area. The Officers observed the vehicle further and found that the vehicle had circled the Officer in attempt to loose the Officer who had been following the vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and upon making contact detected a strong odor of burnt Marijuana. Officers conducted field sobriety tests on the driver a juvenile from Sturgeon Bay, which the driver failed. Prior to conducting field sobriety tests all of the occupants stated they had just smoked Marijuana. Officers arrested the juvenile for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Officers then escorted each of the 5 passengers out of the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, Officers recovered Drug Paraphernalia and Marijuana near the location of where the Officer observed the rear passenger lunging forward. The rear passenger a 18 year old Sturgeon Bay man was issued Ordinance citations for Obstructing an Officer, Underage Drinking, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The juvenile driver who was arrested for OWI was eventually released to his parents.
