Social Security Scam

On November 13, 2013 at 12:00 PM, Officers were dispatched to a citizen assist complaint at a residence on the east side of Sturgeon Bay. Upon arrival Officers found that the complainant had received a phone call from a male from an unknown number. The male had told the complainant that the complainant's social security benefits were to increase next year 2014. During the course of the conversation the male said he had to confirm her social security number, which the complainant provided. After providing the information the unknown male hung up.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.
