Mastercard Phone Scam Alert

On March 6, 2014 at 6:30 PM, a Sturgeon Bay Police Officer received a suspicious phone call on his department cell phone. The phone call was a computer recorded message stating "Your Mastercard has been compromised, please press one for assistance". The Officer hung up and attempted to call the number back, but the Officer received only a busy signal each time they tried. The number came up "unavailable" on the caller identification.

Officers have received additional reports of similar phone calls being made to citizens in Sturgeon Bay. The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.
