Pursuant to section 301.46(e) of the Wisconsin Statutes the Sheriff of Door County and the Chief of Police of the City of Sturgeon Bay are providing information to the general public relating to persons who are convicted sex offenders. These people are registered with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry Program. Community Notification of Registered sex offender is not intended to punish. Many registrants have been successfully reintegrated into the communities where they live and work. No person may engage in harassment of the registrants

2011 OWI Average BAC Released!

 

Sturgeon Bay Police Officers made almost a 100 Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) arrests last year.  It was just released yesterday that the average Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for all of the offenders arrested last year was .18% BAC.  As many of you know the legal blood alcohol limit in Wisconsin is .08% for operating a motor vehicle. Clearly you can see the majority arrested by Officers were twice the legal limit.  Officers continue to strive to take more intoxicated motorists off the roadway and encourage more and more would be intoxicated motorists to use taxis or have responsible drivers provide rides to them.

As of this year alone Officers have arrested a male with a BAC of over .30%.  Furthermore  more and more drivers arrested by Officers are not only intoxicated by alcohol, but also impaired by prescription medications. The Sturgeon Bay Police Department continues to train its Officers in the detection of prescription medication  and wants everyone to know that it is not okay to operate a motor vehicle after consuming prescription medication that may affect your driving ability.  If you drive with prescription medication that can and does affect your driving ability you will be arrested.

SBPD DCSD Join Wisconsin Crime Network!

Today, we are pleased to announce that the Sturgeon Bay Police Department along with the Door County Sheriff’s Department have joined the newly created Wisconsin Crime Alert Network. The Wisconsin Crime Alert Network which is modeled after a similar law enforcement notification system out of Minnesota will enable law enforcement agencies the ability to quickly alert the community about a crime or criminal that may directly affect them. The network, which is coordinated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, uses e-mail, SMS text, and broadcast fax technology to send alerts directly to people they are most likely to affect. The alerts can be sent to thousands of people and businesses across the region or even across the state and may be used to prevent crime, apprehend criminals, recover stolen property and improve security measures.

Our goal with the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network is to use this valuable communication tool to preserve Door County as a destination for people to live, work and vacation. The Wisconsin Crime Alert Network has a minimal cost of $1.00 per month or $12.00 per year and businesses, and citizens are both encouraged to join. 26 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Disturbance

On Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 8 AM, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of S. Oxford Avenue for a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers found that the suspects apartment windows had been shattered and Officers could see multiple items strewn about the apartment lawn. Officers made contact with the resident who was intoxicated and refused to listen to Officers commands. Officers made entry into the apartment and took the 26 yr old Sturgeon Bay man into custody. Once in custody Officers found that the apartments interior had been severely damaged by the actions of the resident. Damage to the apartment was estimated to be $6000.  Officers transported the 26 yr old Sturgeon Bay man to the Door County Jail where he remains incarcerated on Bail jumping, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Damage To Property.

Vehicle Pursuit Ends With 46 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man In Jail!

On Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 4:30 AM, Officers on patrol overheard the Door County Sheriffs Department being dispatched to an area near the city for a motorist who was travelling at a high rate of speed. Officers positioned themselves in the area when they observed the vehicle coming into the city limits at a high rate of speed.  Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop. At one point the suspect vehicle nearly struck a squad car.  Officers continued to pursue the vehicle as it drove through ditches destroying multiple mailboxes and going through lawns of residences.  The driver of the vehicle a 46 year old Sturgeon Bay man was stopped in his driveway and arrested for Felony Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, Hit and Run, and multiple other traffic related offenses. The Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

46 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI 3rd.

On Thursday April 19, 2012 at 1:48 AM, Officers on patrol were travelling north on Neenah Avenue when they had to swerve to avoid being struck by a vehicle emerging from an alleyway. Officers turned around and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Pine Street. Officers interviewed the driver who admitted to consuming alcohol. Field sobriety tests were conducted, which he failed. Officers arrested the driver a 46 year old male from Sturgeon Bay for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 3rd Offense. The driver was and incarcerated at the Door County Jail on OWI 3rd Offense.
