New City Ordinance Proposed
Due to prior incidents where citizens have abused and or misused the Door County 911 system to place calls that were not emergency related. A new ordinance has been proposed to the Community Protection and Services Committee. The ordinance must pass the Protection committee and then go before the Common Council for two readings before its adoption. The ordinance is as follows:
10.065--Misuse of 911 Emergency Telephone Number Prohibited.
No person shall, within the city:
1) Use the 911 Emergency Telephone number for regular non emergency calls.
2) Use the 911 Emergency Telephone number to report an emergency, knowing that the fact or situation reported does not exist.
Penalty for violation. Any person convicted of violating any provisions of Section 10.065 or any subsection thereof shall forfeit $200.00 for a first offense and $300.00 for the second and each subsequent violation, plus court costs.
