Halloween Trick or Treat Hours & Safety Tips

Halloween is this Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Trick or Treating hours will be from 4PM to 7PM. We urge all who are trick or treating to follow some of these brief safety tips:

1. Be familiar with the neighborhood you trick or treat in. Go only to homes with a light on.
2. Go in pairs. There is safety in numbers.
3. Look both ways before crossing the street. 
4. Make sure your child's costume can be easily seen at night. Decorate it with reflective tape so motorists and others can easily see them.
5. Try to avoid having the child wear a mask with their costume or make sure the mask allows them to have a complete field of vision. Most masks limit the child's ability to see well and could be a factor in causing them to trip or run into low objects. 
6. Don’t eat candy that is not securely wrapped, or better yet, have a parent or older brother or sister inspect the candy before eating it. 
7. Motorists please remember to watch out for frequent pedestrian traffic.

Officers Arrest 3 After Bar Fight Downtown

On October 21, 2012 at 4:27 PM, Officers were dispatched to Cherry Lanes for a fight in progress. Upon arrival Officers found three bar patrons who had been involved in a fight.  Officers determined that two men a 44 year old Sturgeon Bay man and a 45 year old Sturgeon Bay man had been fighting over a female. Both males sustained injuries due to the fight. The 44 year old man was transported by Paramedics from the bar to Door County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. All three who were involved in the fight were arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Battery.

2 Arrested For OWI Sunday Morning

On Sunday morning, October 21, 2012, Officers arrested two for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). The first OWI arrest came at 12:30 AM when a Officer working on the west side of the Sturgeon Bay observed a vehicle travelling on Duluth Avenue in the other lane of travel. The Officer detected that the driver had been drinking alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests.  The male driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). The 44 year old Milwaukee Man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

The second arrest came at 2:30 AM, when an Officer working downtown observed a vehicle travelling in the middle of the roadway. The Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the driver who didn't have a drivers license had been drinking. Officers conducted field sobriety tests on the 26 year old  female from Milwaukee. The female driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). The 26 year old was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.
