On March 18th 2011, The Sturgeon Bay Police Department was contacted by the Winnebago County Sheriffs Department to assist with locating a snowmobiler who had went into a patch of open water on Lake Butte des Morts. The Sturgeon Bay Police and Fire Departments assisted the Winnebago County Dive Team with the use of sonar equipment purchased last year by a Federal Grant. Since the sonar equipments purchase last year it has been used by SBPD and SBFD numerous times.
