On Friday, February 13th the Sturgeon Bay Police Department took a report of a scam that occurred when a gentleman connected with a person who contacted him through match.com.
The person agreed to fly into Green Bay to spend time with him, and asked him for money for the ticket and some incidentals. The gentleman wired the money and when the time came, went to the airport; the female never got off the plane.
The woman said her father recently passed away and was in the construction business in England. Her father's will indicated she needed to get married in order for her to inherit the money; this was why she was on match.com.
The majority of the money sent to the woman was sent through Western Union and Money Gram. There have since been other reports of fraud happening through other dating websites.
