On Monday July 18, 2011 at 4 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of 8th Avenue. Upon arrival the complainant stated she had received numerous phone calls from a company named American Law Division claiming to be from California. The company requested the complainant give her drivers license number and social security number to them. The phone numbers used in the scam were a toll free number of 855-284-9906 and 213-545-6548. The complainant contacted Law Enforcement before any sensitive information was given over the phone.
Officers did make contact with an unknown male at American Law Division. The male hung up on Officers shortly into the conversation. Officers believe the company is not from California, but possibly overseas. Officers remind individuals to never give sensitive data such as Drivers License Numbers, Social Security Numbers out over the phone.
