Fake AT&T Scam

On September 19, 2011 at 2:40 PM, Officers were dispatched to a Fraud Complaint, which had come into the Police Department. Upon arrival Officers found that the complainant had received an informational packet from AT&T in reference to Theft of Identity.  The complainant found it odd to have received such a packet due to never having used AT&T and never having lived in the City of Sturgeon Bay.

After further investigation it was determined the addresses on the packet didnt match anything from AT&T.  It was also determined from AT&T that the packet wasn't sent by them and that an account had been already opened in the complainants name.  Luckily the complainant didnt send money nor any personal information via the fradulent theft of identity paperwork. As always never give out any personal information via email, mail, or by phone unless your are sure of who you are talking with. If you have any questions reference scams please contact the Police Department.
