On December 1, 2012 at 930 PM, Officers on patrol noticed one of the trees knocked completely over near city hall. Officers recovered parts from the vehicle including the license plate bracket. Officers checked the area, but couldn't locate any vehicles with damage consistent with running over a tree. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from cameras at city hall and nearby businesses to determine the type of vehicle involved in the crash.
Officers on patrol on December 9, 2012 noticed a silver Ford Expedition SUV driving east on Oregon Street with no front license plate. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and observed damage consistent with striking a tree. The driver a man from Georgia later admitted to striking the tree. The man agreed to pay restitution for the damages to the city.
