SBPD Bike Auction Tuesday, June 3rd at 5:00 PM

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department will be having its annual Bike Auction Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 5:00 PM. The bicycles can be viewed from Noon to 5:00 PM on the day of the auction. The auction will be taking place in the Police Departments garage located off of Nebraska Street.

There are over 50 abandoned and unclaimed bikes of many types, descriptions and condition.

Payment in cash or check. All sales are final and bikes are sold as is.

National Police Week 2014: May 11 to May 17

This week from May 11th through May 17th is National Police week. National Police week was started in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, which designated this week in May as Peace Officers Memorial Day. 

During this week tens of thousands of Law Enforcement Officers from across the nation will converge on Washington DC for remembrance and honor of their fallen comrades that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year there will be 286 fallen officers added to the nearly 20,000 other names permanently etched into the memorial’s walls.

So if you get a chance this week or in the future please go ahead and Thank an Officer for the job that he or she is doing…it just could make that Officers day or even his or her week!

Sturgeon Bay Bridge Closures For Inspections

Just a reminder the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will be inspecting the bridges on the following days. Expect the bridges to be closed during inspections.

• Wednesday, May 7 --Michigan St. Bridge – Sturgeon Bay - 8.a.m. to 3 p.m. – full closure
• Thursday, May 8--Oregon St. Bridge – Sturgeon Bay – 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. – full closure 
• Tuesday, May 13 (unchanged)--Bayview Bridge (WIS 42/57), Sturgeon Bay – 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.- full closure

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to thank all of the people in the community that have provided us with anonymous tips. Many of the incidents where we received tips have resulted in arrests that without the tips from the community it would have made the investigations much more difficult and could have led to criminals going unpunished.

2 Arrested For Crossroads At Big Creek Damage

On May 4, 2014 at 8 PM, Officers from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department received an anonymous tip from a member of our community reference who was involved in the damage to multiple historic buildings at the Crossroads At Big Creek. On May 5, 2014 at 7:45 PM, Officers arrested a 18 year old Sturgeon Bay man and a juvenile also from Sturgeon Bay in connection with the damage to the historic buildings at the Crossroads.  The 18 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail on three counts of felony Burglary and three misdemeanor charges of Bail jumping. The juvenile was also incarcerated at the Brown County Jail.

Officers Investigate Damage To Crossroads at Big Creek, Reward Offered

On April 28, 2014 at 4:01 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. Upon arrival Officers were shown numerous buildings which had been broken into. Officers found that someone had used the fire extinguishers inside the building causing extensive damage to the interior of the buildings. Some of the antique items inside were also damaged beyond repair. Officers recovered evidence from the buildings, which is being processed by department evidence technicians. The damage to the buildings and the items inside is expected to be in thousands of dollars in damage.

Michigan Street Bridge Damaged In Collision

On April 28, 2014 at 9:58 AM, Officers were dispatched to the Michigan Street Bridge for an accident. Upon arrival Officers found that a concrete truck with a back hoe on its trailer had struck 12 of the steel cross members on the Michigan Street Bridge. Due to the collision the back hoes hydraulic lines were compromised causing hydraulic oil to leak out. For a brief period of time 1st Avenue and Michigan Street was closed down for cleanup of the oil and sand used to absorb the material. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) responded to the bridge and inspected the damaged cross members. The DOT will fix the cross members in the near future. The Michigan Street Bridge remains open and is safe for vehicular traffic.

Brussels Woman Arrested For OWI

On April 27, 2014 at 2:11 AM, Officers stopped a vehicle on Pennsylvania Street for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the driver Officers found that the driver had been drinking. Officers administered field sobriety tests (FSTS) to the 31 year old Brussels woman, which the woman failed. Officers attempted to provide a preliminary breath test to the woman, but she refused.  Officers arrested the 31 year old Brussels woman for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 2nd Offense and incarcerated her at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Disturbance

On April 26, 2014 at 10:03 PM, Officers were dispatched to a east side residence for a fight in progress.  Upon arrival Officers found two men in their respective bedrooms with injuries from a recent altercation between each other. After Officers determined the reason for the fight, Officers arrested a 39 year old Sturgeon Bay man for violating his absolute sobriety conditions.  The 39 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail on a Probation Hold. Ultimately both men were issued ordinance citations for Disorderly Conduct.
