Illinois Man Arrested For Trespassing


On December 29, 2011 at 7:00 PM, Officers were dispatched a residence in the 10 block of Oak Street for a Trespassing complaint. Upon arrival Officers were met by the homeowner who stated last night the upstairs tenant had a party.  During the night someone entered their apartment without their permission and stood over their younger daughter who was sleeping in the living room. The daughter awoke to the male standing over her, startled by the experience the daughter ran to her parents room and woke them up.  Shortly after waking up her parents the unidentified male left the apartment and was seen leaving through the backyard. After an investigation by Officers it was determined the unidentified male was an Illinois man who had attended the party upstairs.  Officers made contact with the man and arrested the 27 year old Illinois man for Criminal Trespass To Dwelling and was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

1 Arrested After Fight Outside Downtown Bar


On December 28, 2011 at 12:00 AM, Officers were dispatched to an Assault in front of Cherry Lanes bar.  Upon arrival Officers met with the male complainant who stated he had been talking with a female outside the bar when he was struck in the face numerous times. As a result the male suffered scrapes, lacerations, and bruising. The female who had struck the male took off prior to Officers arrival.  About an hour later Officers made contact with her and arrested the 25 year old female from Sturgeon Bay for Disorderly Conduct and Battery. The 25 year old female was booked into the Door County Jail on those charges.

Sturgeon Bay Women Arrested For OWI After Striking House


On December 22, 2011 at 11:45 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of 8th Avenue for a homeowner who was reporting minor damage to his home after it was struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and observed vehicle debris near the point of impact on the residences basement wall. Officers searched the area, but were unsuccessful in locating the vehicle. At 9AM in the morning Officers made contact with the driver a 29 year old Sturgeon Bay women who was arrested after failing field sobriety tests for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).  The 29 year old female was transported to the Jail where she was booked into the jail on OWI.

Officers Investigate Burglary To Residence


On December 26, 2011 at 8:55 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of 4th Avenue for a Burglary that had occurred around 8 PM.  The Burglary took place when the homeowner had left the residence for a few minutes.  An undisclosed amount of items and money were taken from the residence.

Sturgeon Bay Marine Patrol 2011 Stats Published



The Sturgeon Bay Marine Patrol 2011 Statistics were recently compiled and are as follows:  Marine Patrol Officers spent 199.5 Hours total on the water.  174.5 of those hours were dedicated strictly to patrolling the waters of Sturgeon Bay. During that time 16 citations and 19 warnings were issued for a variety of violations.  The Marine Patrol  also conducted 35 safety inspections, assisted 5 vessels and 9 people while out on the water.

44 Yr Old Female Arrested Overnight For OWI


On December 19, 2011 at 7:30 PM, An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle travel over the center line on Michigan Street at Third Avenue. The Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as a 44 year old Sturgeon Bay women.  The driver showed signs of recent drug use and Field Sobriety Tests were conducted (FST's).  The 44 year old Female failed FSTs and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 2nd Offense Drug Related.  The female was transported to the Door County Jail where she was booked into the jail on the OWI Drug Charge and a Probation Hold.

44 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For 4th Offense OWI


On Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 10:15 PM, Officers who were on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a registration violation on Jefferson Street at 7th Avenue.  The Officer identified the driver as a 44 year old Sturgeon Bay man who appeared to be intoxicated. Officers conducted field sobriety tests (FST's) and arrested the 44 year old for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 4th Offense a Felony. The 44 year old man was transported to the Door County Jail where he was booked in on the Felony OWI charge.

One Male Arrested After Assault Downtown That Causes Injuries!


On December 18, 2011 at 1:30 AM, Officers working downtown were flagged down by bystanders who advised them of a large fight in the alleyway between Vans Bar and the Nautical Inn.  Officers arrived on scene and took a 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man into custody for Felony Substantial Battery after he struck another male with a beer bottle in the face inside the Nautical Inn bar. The male who was struck sustained injuries to his face and was transported to the Door County Medical Center for treatment.  The 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man was transported to the Door County Jail and booked in on Misdeaminor Disorderly Conduct and Felony Substantial Battery.

Officers Arrest One For Felony Theft of Bayship Tools


A 29 year old former employee who worked for Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay was taken into custody for Felony Theft this past week.  The 29 year old Sturgeon Bay man was booked into the Door County Jail on Felony Theft after Investigators recovered $3000.00 worth of tools missing from Bayship at his home in Sturgeon Bay.  The tools were stolen by the man while he worked for Bay Shipbuilding Company from 2008 to 2011.

Phone Scam Involving Credit Card Rate Reduction!


On December 15, 2011 at 2 PM, Officers were contacted about a possible phone scam occurring in the City of Sturgeon Bay. A Sturgeon Bay resident contacted the Police Department reference a suspicious number he had been contacted by.  The number was 2532468503 and the complainant was contacted on his cell phone.  A prerecorded message played stating credit card services was calling in regards to the complainant being qualified for a 6.69% interest rate on his credit card.  The recorded message also stated the mans credit card was secure and safe. The recorded message asked the complainant to press one to be transferred to a representative, which the complainant never pressed. When the complainant called the number back, a prerecorded message played explaining how the complainant could add his number to the companies do not call list.  The complainant never pressed one and never entered his number into the unknown companies do not call list. Note the message never stated, which credit card company the credit card services represented.  As always never give out any personal information over the phone unless you are sure about who you are giving it to. As always contact the Police Department with any questions you might have. 

Red Oak Winery and State Farm Insurance Burglarized Overnight.


On December 15, 2011 at 9 AM, Officers were dispatched to a Burglary at the Red Oak Winery. Upon arrival Officers found doors inside the building kicked in. Officers also found that an undisclosed amount of money was taken from the State Farm Insurance business located inside.  Officers recovered evidence, which was left at the crime scene and is being processed by Evidence Technicians at the Police Department. Officers are reminding business owners and homeowners to make sure all exterior doors are locked and secure prior to leaving buildings unoccupied.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested After Camping Under Bayview Bridge


On Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1:30 AM, Officers on patrol noticed a vehicle parked underneath the Bayview Bridge.  Officers checked on the vehicle and found it occupied by a 30 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was intoxicated.  The male admitted to driving to the location to spend the night as he has been living out of his vehicle. The male was issued two misdemeanor citations for Operating After Being Revoked and Failure To Install An Ignition Interlock Device on his vehicle. The male was warned about not camping in the City and was transported by Officers to a friends house where he spent the remainder of the night.

Officers Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks


Officers recently conducted a series of alcohol compliance checks on all of the businesses that sell alcohol in the City of Sturgeon Bay. Of those businesses who sell alcohol, 6 sold to minors and failed to ask for proper identification. The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to congratulate the businesses who didn't sell and asked for proper identification. The following 6 businesses were cited for selling alcohol to minors:
  1. Bulk Petroleum Corp
  2. Greystone Castle
  3. Michigan Street BP
  4. Pick'n Save
  5. Stone Harbor
  6. Woldt's Corner Pub
The Sturgeon Bay Police Department hopes that future compliance checks in the City lead to 100% compliance from all businesses that sell alcohol to minors.

Neighbor Dispute Ends With One Sturgeon Bay Man In Jail.


On December 12, 2011 at 7 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence on Oak Street for a neighbor dispute. Upon arrival Officers found that one of the neighbors had confronted the other neighbor about his exhaust on his vehicle. During the conversation the neighbor who initiated the contact began to use profanities and threatened to tow the neighbors vehicle from the garage. Officers arrived and arrested a 35 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Disorderly Conduct and Felony Bail jumping. The 35 year old Sturgeon Bay man was transported to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated on the above charges.

Officers Investigate Burglary To Residence


On December 10, 2011 at 4 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Georgia Street for a Burglary. Upon arrival Officers were informed by the homeowners that they had just arrived back from vacation to find the front door unlocked and numerous items missing from their residence.

Officers Arrest Sturgeon Bay Man After Investigating Assault


On December 8, 2011 at 6 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Huron Street for a possible assault. Upon arrival Officers found the glass front door to the residence shattered. Officers entered the residence and found numerous items broken inside. After interviewing the victim Officers asked the Door County Sheriffs Department to check at the suspects parents residence to see if he was there. Upon arrival Deputies found the suspects vehicle unoccupied in the driveway severely damaged. It was later determined that the suspect a 25 year old Sturgeon Bay man had taken an axe to his own vehicle and caused significant damage to it. The 25 year old was later arrested by Officers for Disorderly Conduct-Domestic Related, Criminal Damage to Property, and a Probation Hold. The 25 year old was transported to the Door County Jail where he incarcerated on those charges.

50 Yr Old Female From Sturgeon Bay Arrested After Driving To Courthouse


On December 7, 2011 at 12:15 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Door County Justice Center for a female who had driven to the Justice Center with a revoked drivers license. Upon arrival Officers made contact with a 50 year old female from Sturgeon Bay. Officers determined the driver was revoked due to a recent Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) conviction and also didn't have a Ignition Interlock Device installed in her vehicle. Officers issued the female two misdemeanors citations and arrested her on a Probation Hold.  The 50 year old female was booked into the Door County Jail on a Probation Hold.

Forestville Man Arrested For Drug Possesion After Traffic Stop


On December 6, 2011 at 8:30 PM, An Officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for expired registration. During the course of the traffic stop the Officer was allowed by the driver to search the vehicle. The Officer found drugs in the vehicle and drug paraphernalia.  Due to prior offenses for drug possession the 38 year old male from Forestville was arrested on Felony Drug Possession and Misdemeanor Drug Paraphernalia and transported to the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay PD Website Changes


Over the last few days we have made some slight changes to the website.  The following things were added to the website:

  • Included Twitter stream and YouTube stream to the Police Departments News Section.  This allows for users who don't subscribe to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and RSS to keep up with the Police Departments latest news.
  • Currently took down the poll applet as not many were using it.
  • Added new updates to the Community Officer Page including a Monthly Report section.
  • Added The Sturgeon Bay Police Departments Tip of The Week applet located on first page of website. Catch up on the latest Police Tips, which are also posted on Facebook.
  • Added a "Follow Us YouTube Icon" so citizens can now check out our YouTube Channel.

Officers Dispatched To Attempted Burglary On 12th Avenue


On Sunday around 8PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of 12th Avenue for an attempted burglary. Upon arrival Officers spoke to the complainant who stated she had just returned home from the movies and had found her front and rear window screens bent and cut.  Officers conducted a search of the home and didn't find anyone inside. The complainant reports nothing was found to be missing and believes the suspects were not able to gain entry to the residence. The attempted break in caused approximately $100.00 worth of damage.

Officers Arrest 2 Overnight For OWI


On Friday night Officers arrested two for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). The first OWI occurred after a 37 year old male from Illinois was travelling the wrong way on a one way street.  The 33 year old failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.  The second OWI arrest of the night occurred behind Vans Bar when the driver of that vehicle also drove the wrong way on a one way street. The 24 year old male from Sturgeon Bay was arrested after failing field sobriety tests for Operating While Intoxicated and 4th Offense Operating Without A Valid License (OWL).

Officers Respond To Burglary To Marathon Station


Early Friday morning Officers were dispatched to the Marathon Station on 4th Avenue. Upon arrival Officers found an interior wall busted, which allowed entry into the Marathon Station. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the station. Officers spent numerous hours recovering evidence from the crime scene.

Winter Parking Ban Is In Effect!


As the weather is steadily getting worse remember the cities Winter Parking Ban is in effect.  Some common questions that are asked each year are answered below:

Question: What are the hours for the winter parking ban? Answer: The hours for the winter parking ban are as follows from 2AM to 6AM during the months of December through April.

Question: How do I obtain a winter parking permit? Answer: You can obtain a winter parking permit by picking one up at the Police Departments lobby. The cost of the winter parking permit is as follows:

Special parking permits information and applications can be obtained from the City of Sturgeon Bay Municipal Services office at 835 N. 14th Avenue.  A seasonal pass costs $50, a monthly pass is $20.

Question: Where do I park my vehicle during the winter parking ban if I have already purchased a parking permit? Answer: Depending on the day whether its even or odd you park on that side of the street. Make sure to place your parking permit on your dash so it is visible.

Question: If I receive a parking ticket where can I pay it? Answer: You can pay your parking ticket by dropping it off in front of City Hall in the box marked for utilities or you can mail or drop it off at the Police Departments lobby
