Officers Make Arrests In Walmart Thefts--Need Help Identifying Individual!


 
On July 20, 2012 at 8PM, Officers were dispatched to Walmart for a theft complaint. Upon arrival Officers observed footage Walmart had acquired of the thefts. Officers observed the footage and identified many of the individuals involved. With the information obtained Officers arrested a 17 year old Sturgeon Bay female for thefts of prepaid cell phones.  Officers also issued ordinance citations for receiving stolen property to 6 other individuals.  Officers are continuing to investigate other Thefts from Walmart and are looking for the public's help in identifying the individual pictured in these photographs.

SBPD Extends Condolences To The Family Of Deputy Sheriff Sergio Aleman

 The Sturgeon Bay Police Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the family of Deputy Sheriff Sergio Aleman of the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Department who lost his life today while on duty in a traffic accident on Highway 43.

Sturgeon Bay PD Bike Auction TODAY AT 5 PM!!



The Sturgeon Bay Police Department will be having its annual Bike Auction Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 5:00 PM. The bicycles can be viewed from Noon to 5:00 PM on the day of the auction. The auction will be taking place in the Police Departments garage located off of Nebraska Street.

There are over 70 abandoned and unclaimed bikes of many types, descriptions and condition.
Payment in cash or check. All sales are final and bikes are sold as is.

Burn Ban Updated




Emergency Management and Emergency Services of Door County/Door CountyFire Chiefs lift Temporary Ban on camp fires in Door County. Sturgeon Bay, WI.

July 25, 2012, Due to the recent and predicted rain fall, Door County Emergency Management with recommendations by the Door County Fire Chiefs are permitting the use of campfires, including those not at developed campgrounds.

The following open burning is still not being permitted: 
 
· Burning of refuse;
· Debris piles, burn barrels, prescribed or broadcast burns, and agricultural burning; and
· Fireworks.

No burning permits will be issued for the above listed burns. Any burning permits that have been issued (including those for fireworks) are still suspended and no longer valid.

The open burning ban with the above listed will remain in effect until further notice. Door County Emergency Management and Emergency Services / Door County Fire Chiefs will not lift the open burning ban until conditions improve.

Please exercise caution and diligence when having a campfire.

We urge all citizens to follow this ban, in order to protect life, property, and natural resources within Door County.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For Strangulation And Assault


On July 20, 2012 at 4:28 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of North 4th Avenue for an Assault.  Upon arrival Officers were flagged down by a female juvenile who was crying. The female stated to Officers that the man following her had punched her in the face and destroyed her cell phone. Officers observed the man behind her and identified him as a 17 year old  Adult who Officers have had multiple contacts with. Officers ordered the Sturgeon Bay man to the ground and detained the man. Officers determined the suspect had taken the cell phone of the victims and intentionally smashed it. The suspect then punched and strangled the female victim as she attempted to get away. The 17 year old man was arrested and transported to the Door County Jail where he is incarcerated on the following charges:

  1. Felony Physical Abuse To A Child.
  2. Felony Strangulation 
  3. Misdemeanor Criminal Damage To Property 
  4. Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct
  5. Probation Hold


55 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI



On Friday at 12:00 AM, Officers on patrol downtown observed a vehicle travel past a stop sign and nearly strike the squad car the Officer was driving. The Officer turned around and stopped the vehicle. The Officer made contact with the driver a 55 year old Sturgeon Bay man and noticed he had been drinking and his words appeared to be slurred. The Officer conducted field sobriety tests, which the driver failed.  The Officer arrested the man for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). While conducting a search of the man, Officers confiscated Marijuana from his pocket, which the man states he forgot about. The 55 year old Sturgeon Bay man was transported to the Door County Jail were he was booked into the jail on the above charges.

Sturgeon Bay Man Cited After Causing Disturbance


On June 16, 2012 at 5:17 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Bonnieview Drive for a disorderly male who was throwing hockey pucks at the complainants window. Upon arrival Officers made contact with the complainant who stated a 58 year old man had thrown 3 hockey pucks at her window.  Officers determined the male who was upset with the complainant had done this because he believed his grill had been stolen by the complainant. Officers made contact with the 58 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was intoxicated and issued him a ordinance citation for Disorderly Conduct. The grill was returned by Officers to the 58 year old mans residence.

Officers Cite 3 At Underage Drinking Party


On Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 11:30 PM, Officers were contacted by a concerned parent about a underage drinking party after one of her children came home intoxicated. Officers made contact with the complainant and learned of the location where the party was occurring. Upon arrival at the residence in the 900 block of South Hudson Avenue, Officers made contact with several people inside.  Officers interviewed the individuals inside and found that a party had occurred and the juveniles there had been drinking. Officers cited the three remaining juveniles and contacted their parents to pick them up.

Dunbar Man Arrested For Assaulting Women


On July 15, 2012 at 7 PM, Officers were dispatched to Pizza Hut for Battery complaint. Upon arrival Officers interviewed the complainant who was an employee of the business. While interviewing the employee Officers learned that about 45 minutes ago a 36 year old male from Dunbar and his sister came into the restaurant wanting to pay for a pizza they had ordered online. Due to only having a personal check, Pizza Hut was unable to issue money back to the man. Upset by this the man started to yell and shout at the employees of Pizza Hut. The sister of the man paid for the pizza, but the man left without the pizza and took his sister with him.

Pizza Hut employees felt bad and knew who the sister was and drove the pizza to the residence.  Upon arrival  they made contact with the male and advised him his pizza was here. The male came out to get the pizza and ripped the interior door from the Pizza delivery persons arm causing an injury to the females shoulder and hand. While doing this the male began to yell and threaten the delivery person.The delivery person left due to being afraid for her safety and returned to Pizza Hut where she contacted Police.

After hearing what had occurred, Officers made contact with the 36 year old male and arrested him for Battery to the delivery person and Disorderly Conduct. Officers transported the male to the Police Department to be interviewed. While interviewing him the male became disorderly and repeatedly began to bang his head against the concrete wall of the Police Department. Officers and Sturgeon Bay Firefighters had to restrain the man and Paramedics transported the male to the Door County Medical Center for the injuries he had caused to himself. After receiving medical treatment the 36 year old male was transported to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated on 2 counts of Disorderly Conduct and 1 count of Battery.

Officers Arrest 3 For Felony OWI Last Weekend!


Officers last weekend Saturday July 14, Sunday July 15, and Monday July 16 arrested 3 individuals for Felony Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 4th offense.

The first was a 28 year old Green Bay man who was stopped for operating left of center on Michigan Street. The Officer detected that the male had been drinking alcohol and field sobriety tests were conducted, which the male failed. The 28 year old was transported to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated on the felony charge of OWI and issued numerous traffic citations.

The second was a 23 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was stopped for operating his vehicle with expired plates on it. Officers detected that the driver had been drinking alcohol and field sobriety tests were conducted, which the 23 year old driver failed. The 23 year old was transported to the Door County Jail where he was incarcerated on the felony charge of OWI and issued additional misdemeanor charges for operating while revoked and failing to have a ignition interlock installed in his vehicle.

The third was a 44 year old Ellison Bay man who was stopped for operating left of center.  The 44 year old at first denied drinking, but field sobriety tests determined he had been drinking alcohol, which the driver later admitted. Officers arrested the 44 year old Ellison Bay man after he failed field sobriety tests and incarcerated him at the Door County Jail on the felony charge of OWI and numerous traffic citations.

Officers continue to remind citizens who go out to drink and have too much that they should use taxis, designated drivers, or walk home from the bars after drinking.

21 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Man Cited For Drug Possession


On Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 12:38 AM, Officers on foot patrol came across a male intoxicated sitting in the drivers seat of his vehicle attempting to cool off after being in a local bar. Officers determined not only was the male intoxicated, but had ingested drugs prior to Officers arrival. While talking with the male Officers observed drugs inside the door compartment. Officers confiscated the Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia, and other items related to the use of drugs from the car. Officers cited the 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man with Open intoxicants, Possession of THC, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sturgeon Bay Man Charged With Disorderly Conduct


On Friday, July 13, 2012 at 3:19 PM, Officers were dispatched to Garland Park for a male who was naked and defecating in the park. Officers made contact with the 58 year old Sturgeon Bay man who was intoxicated and had defecated on the ground and in his shorts. After talking with the complainant and the intoxicated 58 year old male Officers issued the Sturgeon Bay man a misdemeanor charge of Disorderly Conduct and transported him home.

Officers Cite 4 At Underage Drinking Party!


On July 12, 2012 at 9:21 PM, Officers went to the 200 block of South 18th Avenue to locate an adult male with a warrant from Probation and Parole. Upon arrival Officers didn't find the male with the warrant, but found 6 individuals involved in a underage drinking party. Three of the six were cited for underage drinking after Officers found that they had been drinking alcohol. Another male a 19 year Sturgeon Bay man was cited for providing alcohol to minors and possession of alcohol.

Officers Investigate Check Fraud


On July 12, 2012 at 1 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department reference check fraud. Upon arrival Officers met with the complainant who stated she had accepted a job working as a personal assistant via email from a Derek Early. The complainant provided Derek's email, which was dd_early@aol.com.  The job was to pay around $500.00.  On July 7, 2012 the complainant received a package with a check enclosed for $3850.90. The complainant cashed part of the check and spent around $200.00 before being notified by the bank of the check being fraudulent. As a result the complainant is out $200.00.

Flood Advisory--Please Drive Carefully!


The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for all of Door County. Another inch of rain is expected to fall in the next few hours. Some streets in the City of Sturgeon Bay are flooded and treacherous to drive through. Currently 14th and Georgia Street is barricaded off due to high water. With an inch of rain expected before 9 AM, road conditions will worsen so please drive safely.

50 Yr Old Sturgeon Bay Women Arrested For OWI 2nd Offense!


On July 9, 2012 at 4:16 PM, A Officer patrolling Egg Harbor Road conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle due to the registered owner being revoked for a prior operating while intoxicated (OWI) offenses .  Upon making contact with the driver the Officer determined she had been drinking alcohol. The Officer conducted field sobriety tests, which the female driver failed. The driver a 50 year old Sturgeon Bay women was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense and was incarcerated at the Door County Jail on OWI 2nd Offense, Bail jumping, Failure to Install Ignition Interlock, and numerous other traffic violations. 

2 Cited For Fighting Downtown


On July 8, 2012 at 12:16 AM, A Officer who was working downtown was parked in the gas station parking lot on Third Avenue at Michigan Street working on reports. While doing so he observed in his rear view mirror a couple begin to verbally argue While observing the Officer then saw both male and female begin to fight. The Officer made contact with a 25 year old male and 27 year old female from Sturgeon Bay and separated the two.  After Officers determined what had occurred both individuals were sent home and issued ordinance citations for Disorderly Conduct.

Green Bay Women Arrested For OWI 3rd & Bail jumping


On July 7, 2012 at 9:51 PM, A Officer on patrol on Duluth Avenue observed a vehicle travelling over the center line and into his lane of traffic. The Officer pulled over to the side of the road and turned behind the vehicle. The vehicle immediately pulled into the Duluth Storage Sheds where the Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. While talking with the driver Officers determined she had been drinking. Officers conducted field sobriety tests, which the driver failed. Officers arrested the 34 year old Green Bay women for Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense and for Bail-jumping due to being on bond for a her previous OWI and wasn't supposed to be driving. The male passenger a 37 year old Sturgeon Bay man was also arrested by Officers for violating his probation. Both the 34 year old female and the 37 year old male were incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI 2nd Offense


On Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 12:48 AM, Officers stopped a vehicle for a equipment violation. While talking with the driver Officers determined the driver had been drinking alcohol and was on prescription drugs. Officers conducted field sobriety tests (FST's), which the driver failed. Officers arrested the 26 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 2nd Offense. The 26 year old Sturgeon Bay man was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Door County Burn Ban Issued!



Emergency Management of Door County/Door County Fire Chiefs Place
Temporary Ban on Open Burning

Sturgeon Bay, WI. July 16, 2012, Because of the recent dry conditions  and no significant rainfall in the forecast, Emergency Management of Door County (EM) with cooperation with Door County Fire Chiefs has placed a temporary ban on open burning effective immediately.

This temporary ban of open burning is effective within the County of Door. This ban prohibits any open burning, agriculture burning or similar legal fires until weather conditions improve. Extreme temperatures are expected later this week with little to no rainfall will continue to create drier conditions and more need to protect homes, families and properties from the exposure to fire.

That means fire departments will not issue burn permits until conditions improve. Burn permits already issued are no longer valid. This also includes campfires, burn barrels, and fireworks. Developed campgrounds will be allowed to have attended campfires at their own risk.


    Issues a ban on outdoor open burning (including refuse burning) within Door County until further notice.This ban includes,but is not limited to:
    All campfires, except for those in developed camping areas. Campfires allowed (but
not recommended) are those conducted within a metal fire ring in developed camping areas (such as commercial campgrounds or designated camping areas within state or city,county,town or village parks) and then only at the discretion of the camping area owner and/or  operator;and
    Debris piles,burn barrels,and prescribed or broadcast burns.

The open burning ban will remain in effect until the Door County EM/Door County Fire
Chiefs have lifted the Open Burning Ban. We urge all citizens to follow this ban to
protect lives and property within Door County.

Phone Scam Alert!


On Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 3:49 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Green Bay Road for a phone scam. Upon arrival Officers found that the complainant had received numerous phone calls (20 to 30) per day stating he had won $2.5 million dollars. The caller named Scott asked the complainant to send $350.00 to a point of contact named Charlton Henry in turn they would send $250,000.00 dollars and the remainder of the money would be deposited shortly afterward into the complainants account. The caller stated the $350.00 would be refunded later on.  The complainant contacted Police shortly thereafter and never sent any money to the caller who was calling from a Jamaica area code.  Officers did make contact with the male who had been calling the complainant named Scott. Officers informed Scott about not contacting the complainant anymore. The number provided by Scott to Officers was disconnected when Officers attempted to contact him back.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never send money to anyone without knowing the person who you are sending it to. Make sure to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.

Algoma Man Arrested After Making Threats


On July 5, 2012 at 6 AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of Maple Street and South Fulton Avenue for a male who had contacted dispatch and stating he was going to shoot 40 people if Officers didn't get there in time. Officers circled the area, but didn't locate the male. A few minutes later dispatch received another 911 call, which provided a better location nearby. Officers ended up finding the 30 year old Algoma man near the highway and arrested him for an outstanding warrant out of Kewaunee County. The male who was intoxicated and had ingested an unknown substance was transported to the county line where he was handed over to Kewaunee County Deputies.

Sturgeon Bay Man Injured After Crashing Near Bayview Bridge


On July 5, 2012 at 1:43 AM, Officers were dispatched to a PI Accident on the highway near the Bayview Bridge. The bridge tender and a nearby homeowner had contacted 911 stating they had heard a loud bang coming from the direction of the Bayview Bridge. Officers en route were informed by the bridge tender of a better location and upon arrival observed a vehicle, which had rolled over in the ditch. Officers searched the area around the vehicle because the driver wasn't located inside of it. Upon further investigation Officers found a 27 year old Sturgeon Bay man lying injured in the grass near the vehicle.  Officers determined the male was driving north on the highway and had crossed both lanes of traffic ending up going off into the ditch where the vehicle rolled ejecting the 27 year old into the grass. Officers cited the driver for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and issued him numerous other traffic citations. The 27 year old Sturgeon Bay man was transported to Door County Medical Center where he received treatment for his injuries.

2 Sturgeon Bay Men Arrested For Obstructing Officers


On Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 1 AM, Officers on patrol downtown observed a group of males walking next to Palmer Johnson's when one of the males began to act suspiciously. The Officer went around the block believing the male was attempting to possibly drive home intoxicated. As the Officer approached the vehicle the Officer observed the same male in the driver seat and two males quickly walking towards Stone Harbor Resort. The Officer made contact with the group including the male who was in the drivers seat. The male who had acted suspiciously refused to comply with the Officers orders and then took off running from the Officer. A description of the suspect was given to other Officers working and they attempted to locate the male, but were unsuccessful.

While interviewing one of the males who stood by the car, Officers asked the male a 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man if he knew who had ran from the Officer. The male denied knowing the individual. Officers sent the man on his way and later determined the 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man indeed knew the male who had ran from Officers, which was his friend a 20 year old Sturgeon Bay man.

The 21 year old who is out on bond for Resisting and Obstructing Officers for a previous incident was referred to the Door County District Attorneys Office for criminal charges of Bail jumping  & Resisting and Obstructing Officers. The 20 year old who had ran from Officers later admitted his involvement and was issued a citation for Obstructing Officers.

Officers Investigate Theft of Automobile


On July 4, 2012 at 12:28 PM, Officers were dispatched to a Auto Theft complaint at Avis Rental Car. Upon arrival Officers learned about a rental car that was rented, which hadn't been returned by the renter. The car WI PC 298TLV is a white 2012 Ford Fusion and the last time the company had contact with the renter was on July 3, 2012. When Officers and employees from the rental company attempted call back to find out why the vehicle wasn't returned the phone number was disconnected. Officers continue to conduct further investigation into this matter.

SUMMER POLICE ACADEMY For Children 5th Through 8th Grade Starting August 13th!





SUMMER POLICE ACADEMY

·         August 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th from 12:00 PM to 4:30
PM at the Sturgeon Bay Police Department
·         Open to children going into 5th grade to 8th grade who are residents of Door or Kewaunee Counties
·         Space is limited to the first 20 applicants

This half-day summer camp” style program, taught by Police Explorers, Community Service Officers, and Police Officers, will introduce children to Police work, through presentations and hands- on activities.  During the program, children will:
·              Get a tour of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department building, the Door County Justice Center, and a police squad car.
·              Listen to SWAT, Marine Patrol, and Community Service officers discuss their jobs and see
these officers’ equipment.
·              Learn about traffic enforcement, conduct mock traffic stops with actual police cars, learn how to conduct field sobriety tests, and use police radar to measure actual traffic speeds.
·              Learn about investigating traffic accidents and investigate a mock accident scene.
·              Learn about traffic control and practice performing traffic control of cars under controlled conditions (in a blocked-off parking lot, cars driven by PD instructors).
·              Learn about domestic disturbances and how to handle and investigate domestic incidents.
Handle domestic disturbance scenarios with instructors role-playing suspects and victims.
·              Learn about defensive tactics.  Practice handcuffing techniques.  See an officer demonstrate proper firearms handling and discuss deadly force issues. Participate in staged shoot/dont shoot scenarios with role players.


A daily snack will be provided throughout the week of the program.  Each child will be provided with a T-Shirt to wear during the academy, and to keep after the academy is finished.  The cost of the program will be $10 per child, to cover the cost of the t-shirt and snacks.

Applications for the Summer Police Academy can be picked up at the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Sturgeon Bay Parks Department, or the Algoma Police Department.
