Officers Assist Fire Department With Natural Gas Leak


On February 21, 2012 at 8:30 PM, Officers were dispatched to a Natural Gas Leak at the Nautical Inn. Officers assisted Sturgeon Bay Fire Department with closing down the street and with evacuating residents from the building.  It was determined that an employee accidentally broke off a gas line downstairs in the basement of the Nautical Inn causing the leak. Wisconsin Public Services arrived to assist with repairing the leak.

Officers Cite Female For Causing Disturbance!


On Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 6 AM, Officers were dispatched to 990 South Oxford Avenue for a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers observed damage to the complainants apartment door consistent with someone trying to forcible gain entry.  Officers later found that a 19 year old Sturgeon Bay women had attempted to break into the complainants residence after she believed her keys had been stolen. Officers also learned that the 19 year old had been drinking earlier in the night and had an altercation in the complainants residence.  Officers cited the female with Disorderly Conduct and Underage Drinking.

26 Vehicles Vandalized At Witt Ford, Cash Reward Offered!


On February 24, 2012 at 11 AM, Officers were dispatched to Witt Ford for a vandalism complaint. Upon arrival Officers found that 26 vehicles had been shot with BB gun rounds in the windshields causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Officers determined the incident had occurred sometime after 6:20 PM on February 22, 2012.  Officers are asking the public for their help in finding the vehicle or the individual(s) involved in the incidents.  A cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrests of the suspect(s) involved in the rash of criminal damage to property incidents involving BB guns.

25 Yr Old Casco Man Arrested OWI 2nd & Felony Drug Possession


On February 19, 2012 at 2:40 AM, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after it had drove into the other lane of travel on Kentucky Street.  Officers made contact with the driver and found that he had been drinking. Officers asked the driver to do field sobriety tests, which the driver did do. The driver a 25 year old Casco man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicted (OWI) 2nd offense and Felony Drug Possession after drugs were found concealed on the driver and he failed field sobriety tests. The 25 year old male from Casco was incarcerated at the Door County Jail for the above offenses.

Officers Investigate Vandalism To Old Kmart Store

 

On February 17, 2012 at 8:45 PM, Officers conducted a security check of the old Kmart building on Egg Harbor Road.  The day before Officers had found juveniles skateboarding behind a locked gate that had been pried open. Before Officers could do more with the incident they were taken away to a priority call. Officers began to check the exterior doors and found one of the doors unlocked. Officers found the inside of the building vandalized.  Officers made contact with the properties owner, which secured the building.

Officers Investigate BB Gun Damage To Vehicles.


On February 17, 2012 at 8 AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of Walnut Court for two reports of Criminal Damage To Property. On arrival Officers observed BB Gun Damage to a vehicle on Walnut Court and Ithaca Place.  Both vehicles windows had been shot out.  Officers canvassed the area and found that neighbors had observed earlier in the night an older tan mini van with signs on the passenger side door driving through Walnut Court and then onto Ithaca Place.  The tan mini van had left Walnut Court at a high rate of speed after turning around. Officers attempted to find the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Officers are asking the public for their help in finding the vehicle or the individual(s) involved in the incidents.  A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrests of the suspect(s) involved in the rash of criminal damage to property incidents involving BB guns.

Juveniles Cited For Meddling Downtown


On February 16, 2012 at 8:30 PM, Officers were dispatched to the downtown area after it was reported two juvenile males had been running out into the middle of the street in front of cars. As Officers approached the area Officers overheard loud yelling coming from the two juveniles. Officers approached the individuals and advised them to not run out into the street.  While talking with the juveniles a local owner of a business came out to Officers to complain about the two juveniles.  Officers then observed newspaper boxes knocked over downtown. Officers interviewed the two juveniles and determined the juveniles thought it would be fun to knock over the boxes. Officers cited the juveniles for an ordinance violation of Meddling/Destruction of Property.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For Assault At Bar Downtown


On February 12, 2012 at 12:45 AM, Officers on patrol downtown were flagged down by a man who stated he had just been assaulted. Officers investigated the incident and obtained information that an argument over a pool game at one of the downtown bars led up to the altercation. The victim received injuries to his face as a result of the assault.  The victim received treatment for his injuries at Door County Medical Center. Officers arrested a 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man for Battery and Disorderly Conduct.

Sturgeon Bay Man Arrested For OWI 3rd


On February 15, 2012 at 11:30 PM, Officers on patrol noticed a vehicle driving the wrong way on a one way street downtown. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and determined the driver had been drinking. The driver a 55 year old Sturgeon Bay man was asked to do field sobriety tests, which he did do. The driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense after failing field sobriety tests. The man was also cited for Operating While Suspended and warned about Failing to obey sign or signal. The 55 year old driver was incarcerated at the Door County Jail.

Phone Scam Alert


On February 15, 2012 at 5PM, Officers met with a female complainant at the Police Department reference a suspicious phone call she had received from 347-418-0487.  The caller id also displayed "New York Call".  The caller a female with an accent had stated all senior citizens were receiving new social security cards and asked the complainant for her banking information. The complainant hung up on the caller and then reported the incident to Police. No sensitive information was given to the caller. Officers remind citizens to never ever give out sensitive information including social security numbers or banking information out over the phone. As always please contact the Police Department with any questions you might have regarding these sort of calls.

Lakeshore Police Explorers Competing In Hartford Explorer Competition!

The Lakeshore Police Explorer group 9368 made up of 14-20 year olds from Door and Kewaunee counties will be competing in the Hartford Police Explorer competition February 25th, 2012. The competition includes 18 other Police Explorer groups from across the State of Wisconsin.  The competition will include various scenarios (Traffic stops, Hostage Situations, Crime Scene Investigations, and many other Law Enforcement Topics).

These people are registered with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry Program. Community Notification of Registered sex offender is not intended to punish. Many registrants have been successfully reintegrated into the communities where they live and work. No person may engage in harassment of the registrants

Officers Arrest One After Crashing Into Parked Car


On January 27, 2012 at 2 AM, Officers on patrol observed a vehicle traveling on Third Avenue with multiple vehicle defects. Officers turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, which had turned onto Oregon Street. When Officers arrived at Oregon Street the vehicle was gone. Officers looked to the north and observed the same vehicle traveling extremely fast through the parking lot of Bridgeview Hair Design.  The vehicle turned behind Bridgeview Hair Design and attempted to drive north through a residences back yard before it couldn't go any further. As Officers caught up to the vehicle Officers observed the vehicle slam into another vehicle, which was parked unoccupied in the parking lot. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested a 27 year old Sturgeon Bay women for Operating While Intoxicated and Hit and Run after she failed field sobriety tests.

Congratulations To Officer Coyhis!


The Sturgeon Bay Police Department is proud to announce Officer Dan Coyhis as one of its newest Officers.  Officer Coyhis was selected from an applicant pool of over 150 candidates.  Officer Coyhis has already started a rigorious16 week field training program and looks forward to getting out on his own.  Officer Coyhis replaces Sergeant Waterstreets spot on patrol.

Officers Investigate Disturbance Downtown


On Saturday morning around 1 AM, Officers on patrol downtown observed a disturbance in front of Cherry Lanes. Officers made contact with the individuals involved and transported one male who was intoxicated home to his residence.

Officers Investigate Thefts From Vehicles


On February 3, 2012 at 7 AM, Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 5th Avenue for a theft complaint. Upon arrival the complainant stated his unlocked vehicle had been entered overnight and numerous items had been taken. A GPS Unit, Lexar Flash Drive, and coins totaling around $8.00 were taken from the vehicle. Officers were able to take a few items from the vehicle left by the suspect as evidence.

About 30 minutes later Officers were dispatched to the same area for another theft complaint. Officers found that the suspect again entered an unlocked vehicle and took a pair of sunglasses, GPS Unit, and a camouflage folding knife.

Later Officers were made aware of a third incident in the same location where the complainants radar detector and cell phone had been taken from the car, which was left unlocked overnight. 

Officers remind citizens to never ever leave vehicle doors unlocked and always place valuables out of sight.  Always remember to report any suspicious sounds, activity or people to Police right away.  The Police Department can be contacted at 920-746-2450 or if its an EMERGENCY please call 911.

Officers Investigate BB Gun Damage To Vehicle


On Thursday February 2, 2012 at 4:45 PM, Officers were dispatched to 700 block of North 6th Avenue for Vandalism complaint. Upon arrival Officers observed damage consistent with BB gun damage to the complainants vehicle. The amount of damage done to the vehicle is unknown. 

Officers are asking the public for help in this matter. There is a reward being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the individual(s) involved in this incident or the incidents that took place in late January.
