Officers Arrest Two Connected With Displaying Facsmile Firearm At Sunset Park

Earlier this week Officers were dispatched to Sunset Park reference two males in a blue Chevy Lumina displaying a handgun to juveniles.  Upon arrival Officers didn't find the suspect vehicle or the males who had been driving it. Just yesterday around 8:30 PM, Officers on foot patrol discovered an unoccupied vehicle near Graham Park fitting the suspect vehicles description and observed through the windows a black handgun and a large knife hidden next to the drivers seat.

A short time later Officers arrested the owner of the vehicle and his friend on probation holds.  Both males are being held in the Door County Jail. Officers later determined the handgun to be an airsoft gun.  Officers would like to remind everyone that if you are using airsoft guns please make sure to have the orange tip installed on it. Federal law in the United States requires that a 6 mm (0.24 in) orange tip be present on all "toy guns" (including airsoft replicas) that are sold in the United States.

Lastly remember these "Toy" guns look very real and many times cannot be distinguished from the real things.  If brandished in public places it may be mistaken by citizens or law enforcement as the real thing. Public use of airsoft guns could result in citations, arrests, or even worse deadly force used against you. So if you plan on using airsoft guns please use common sense and restrict your use to private property and or clubs designed for airsoft use.

National Police Week Begins! Remember Those Who Have Fallen!

Just last week I told you about the Sturgeon Bay Police Departments Honor Guard attending the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial.  Starting this week May 15th through May 21st is National Police week.  National Police week was started in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, which designated this week in May as Peace Officers Memorial Day.

During this week tens of thousands of Law Enforcement Officers from across the nation will converge on Washington DC for remembrance and honor of their fallen comrades that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.  Thus far there has been 69 Officers killed in the line of duty this year (10% increase from last year).  31 of those Officers killed have been shot and killed (41% increase from last year).

This year has been a very sad year for Law Enforcement, we had a local hero shot and killed, Officer Craig Birkholz from Fond Du Lac PD who was killed in March of this year Officer Birkholz Memorial Link.  So wherever you are from if you get a chance this week or in the future please go ahead and Thank an Officer for the job that he or she is doing…it just could make that Officers day or even his or her week.
