Tacoma Beach Road remains closed and will be for sometime. Other than Tacoma Beach Roadall roads should be passable, but there is allot of debris on the roadway so drive safe through the City. Interested In What Law Enforcement Does? 14-20 Yrs Old? Join Lakeshore Police Explorer Post 9368!
If your 14 to 20 years old in High School and are interested in becoming a Police Officer we are looking for you! Officers just completed recruitment at Sturgeon Bay High School and had a great turn out by kids interested in the newly formed Lakeshore Police Explorer Post 9368. Throughout this month Officers will be going to surrounding schools in Kewaunee and Door County recruiting kids to join in on the fun.
There will be an informational meeting for all of the current Police Explorers and new ones October 19th 2011 at the Sturgeon Bay High School auditorium. The meeting will run from 7 PM to 9PM and parents are encouraged to attend with any questions they might have about the program. If you are wondering what the Police Explorer program is about the following is a brief summary of what it offers:
The Explorer Post is designed for groups of young men and women ages 14 through 20, to get hands-on experience in the law enforcement career. Monthly meetings are held to show students the different aspects of law enforcement and what duties and responsibilities the student would have if he/she chose this career. The program includes presentations and hands-on activities in the following areas:
- Traffic stops
- Accident scenes
- Crime scenes
- Traffic control
- Drug investigation
- Jail/Communications
- Etc.
Police Explorers wear uniforms to the monthly meetings and also at public functions. Explorers may be used for public functions such as parades, fairs, and community programs. At these functions, Explorers may be asked to do traffic control, give out information to the public, or help agencies within the county and the programs they have. The Explorer Post is a non-profit organization that runs on donations and fundraisers held by the members.

21 Yr Old Forestville Man Arrested For OWI After Accident
Officers were dispatched late Sunday night to a one vehicle accident on the end of Circle Ridge Road. Upon arrival Officers observed a vehicle, which had crashed through a metal guard rail and two trees that lead to an embankment. After speaking with the driver who appeared to be intoxicated Officers conducted Field Sobriety Tests (FST). Officers arrested the driver a 21 year old Forestville man for Operating While Intoxicated after he failed FST's. The passenger 18 years old was cited for underage drinking. Fortunately air bags were deployed and the occupants in the car were wearing their seat belts. Likely if the occupants hadn't been wearing the seat belts this situation could have ended tragically with both individuals seriously injured or dead. The 21 year old Forestville man was booked into the Door County Jail on OWI, Inattentive Driving, Providing Alcohol To A Minor, and a Probation Hold.
Officers Cite One For Creating Early Morning Disturbance Downtown
On Sunday morning around 2:15 AM, Officers on patrol were summoned by bouncers at Vans Bar for assistance in removing a customer who was starting fights inside the bar. Officers removed the 21 year old Sturgeon Bay man and sent him on his way home. Within minutes the Sturgeon Bay man got into another altercation in front of Vans Bar. Officers cited the 21 year old male with Disorderly Conduct and Obstructing an Officer after he ran from Officers.

Suspicious Male Arrested After Causing Disturbance Downtown
On Tuesday around noon Officers were alerted to a suspicious male pan handling for money downtown Sturgeon Bay. After a brief search Officers made contact with the male and conducted an investigation. During the investigation Officers found that the suspicious male a 41 year old from Milwaukee had made lewd comments to a female he had cornered downtown after she refused to give him money. The female frightened by the 41 year old males behavior fled into her apartment complex nearby and contacted Police. Officers responded and ended up arresting the male for Disorderly Conduct and Harassment. The 41 year old male was transported and booked into the Door County Jail.
Fake AT&T Scam
On September 19, 2011 at 2:40 PM, Officers were dispatched to a Fraud Complaint, which had come into the Police Department. Upon arrival Officers found that the complainant had received an informational packet from AT&T in reference to Theft of Identity. The complainant found it odd to have received such a packet due to never having used AT&T and never having lived in the City of Sturgeon Bay.
After further investigation it was determined the addresses on the packet didnt match anything from AT&T. It was also determined from AT&T that the packet wasn't sent by them and that an account had been already opened in the complainants name. Luckily the complainant didnt send money nor any personal information via the fradulent theft of identity paperwork. As always never give out any personal information via email, mail, or by phone unless your are sure of who you are talking with. Suspicious Phone Calls-Fraud Alert!
On September 15, 2011 at 1024 Hrs, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 blk of Belmar Place. Upon arrival Officers were informed by the homeowner that a male named Jerry lake had contacted her stating she had won 1.5 Million Dollars. The phone number that the homeowner was contacted by
was listed as 876-342-3300. Officers contacted the number and a male with a foreign accent answered, but hung up when Officers advised him the purpose of the call.

Officers Investigate Threats Sent To WDOR Radio Station
Late last week Officers were dispatched to the WDOR Radio Station in the City of Sturgeon Bay for threats. Upon arrival Officers observed letters sent to the radio station, which were threatening in manner. Officers are currently investigating this matter and suspect charges will be forwarded shortly to the Door County District Attorneys Office.

Sergeant Wendy Rabach Announces Her Retirement
This past week Sergeant Wendy Rabach submitted her papers to the City announcing her retirement effective November 1st 2011 from the Police Department after a career of 22 years. Sergeant Rabach started in 1989 working as a Patrol Officer for the City of Sturgeon Bay. Prior to working for the City of Sturgeon Bay, Sergeant Rabach worked for the Door County Sheriffs Department as a dispatcher. While working for the City, Sergeant Rabach specialized in many areas of Law Enforcement, but was considered an expert when dealing with sensitive crimes. The men and women of The Sturgeon Bay Police Department wish Sergeant Rabach a safe and happy retirement from Law Enforcement.

Smell of Smoke In The Air...Nothing To Be Alarmed About!
As many of you wake up this morning you will smell the smell of smoke outside. No worries there is nothing burning nearby, but there is a wild fire burning in Minnesota, which is causing smoke to drift via the strong northeast winds into Wisconsin. With that being said the National Weather Center is warning that air quality levels could dip to unhealthy levels for children and elderly adults within the next few days.
Charges Sought After Early Morning Assault Behind Cherry Lanes
On Thursday September 8th at 3:43 AM, Officers were dispatched to the alleyway behind Cherry Lanes for an accident with injuries Upon arrival Officers found an automobile with severe damage to its rear end and the vehicles owner bleeding from his head. Upon further investigation it was determined that the injuries were not from the accident, but from an assault that had caused the accident. The victim was assaulted by a 23 year old Sturgeon bay man after the victim refused to provide a ride to the jail to bail out a mutual friend. Charges for Disorderly Conduct and Felony Substantial Battery are being forwarded to the Door County District Attorneys Office. The victim was treated at Door County Medical Center and released.

Officers Investigate Theft From Boat
On Wednesday September 7, 2011 at 8:40 AM, Officers were dispatched to the former Applebees parking lot for a theft. Upon arrival Officers interviewed a Hilbert man who states overnight between 9 PM on Tuesday and 8 AM on Wednesday someone had entered into his boat and stole over $4000.00 worth of fishing equipment (tackle, rods & reels, fish finders). Officers are asking the public for any help that they can give in this matter. Oregon Bridge Closure September 8th 2011
The Oregon Bridge will be closed for washing and maintenance September 8th 2011 from 7 AM to 2 PM. During the bridge closure please plan ahead and use the Michigan Street Bridge.
Dogs Running At Large Leads To Altercation
On September 4, 2011 at 7:23 PM, Officers responded to an altercation in the 900 block of Geneva Avenue. Upon arrival Officers found two males who had been in an altercation over dogs running at large. Officers ended up seperating the two males and warned the owner of the dogs about not having his dogs on a leash in the City of Sturgeon Bay. Officers would like to remind everyone that no matter how well trained your dog is they need to be on a leash at all times. It is also against the law to allow your dog to deficate on someone elses property without picking it up. Both are ordinance violations, which carry a $100-300 fine.
