Police Help an Intoxicated Person Only to Arrest Them an Hour Later

On January 28, at 7:21 pm, police were called to the Brick Lot for an upset patron who was refused service for being intoxicated and disruptive to other customers.  It was determined the person's actions did not justify a citation, but to remove them from the situation, police offered to give the patron a ride to a friend's house in the city.  Upon being dropped off at the residence, they were told they could not drive and their vehicle could remain parked downtown.

At 8:23pm, police were dispatched to a two vehicle accident in the 700 block of Jefferson St.  The officer found the same person who they had helped out an hour earlier, had returned to get their vehicle.  While traveling up Jefferson St, the driver, a 26 year old female from Sister Bay, was tailgating the vehicle in front of them and struck the other vehicle. Thankfully, no one was hurt in either vehicle.

However, the driver of the second vehicle was known to be intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested for OWI-1st offense and taken to jail.  Open alcohol containers were visible in the vehicle and a search also turned up a small amount of marijuana.  In addition to the OWI citation, the driver was cited for reckless driving, following too close, non-registration of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance, open intoxicants and possession of marijuana.
