Credit Card Phone Scam Alert

Today around 10 AM, Officers were dispatched to a residence on 4th Avenue for a Credit Card Scam. Upon arrival Officers were informed that an unknown company had contacted the complainant claiming that President Obama had passed a law allowing for $2500.00 to be issued to individuals with high credit card interest rates.  The caller stated that before the money could be issued to the complainant they needed to verify, which credit cards the complainant had.  Unknowingly the complainant provided the credit card numbers and then realized it was a mistake and hung up the phone. The caller continued to call back numerous times. The complainant contacted Police after hanging up the phone.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving. In this case Officers recommended the complainant contact the credit card companies and cancel the credit cards.
