Arrest Made for Criminal Damage to Property

On the morning of July 3, police took a report that two vehicles had been vandalized overnight while parked at the AmericInn  Hotel.  A 2005 Yamaha motorcycle was tipped over and sustained damage to the windshield, headlight and chrome trim pieces.  A 2007 Buick Lucerne received extensive damage, with all the quarter panels and doors to the vehicle being dented and smashed in.  The estimate to repair the damage to the Buick was over $14,000.

This was determined to not be a random incident, but the damaged vehicles were targeted.  The suspect was identified as a 34 yr old male, who was a family member to the two vehicle owners.  The suspect had recently been let go from working in the family business and was upset.  Evidence gathered in the investigation confirmed the suspect had damaged the vehicles.

On July 7, police arrested the suspect, a a 34 yr old male from Sturgeon Bay.  He was taken to the Door County Jail and charged with criminal damage to property.  The charge was a felony, as the damaged amount exceeded $2,500.
