Release: Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department
On September 7, 2017 the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that an electronic credit card reading device had been found at a fuel pump within Kewaunee County.
Upon arrival, officers where provided information that the device would have been installed sometime in the early morning hours of September 7th, and that the devices were installed on two different pumps at that location.
The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department along with all local law enforcement agencies have notified all fuel point services throughout Kewaunee County to determine the extent of this activity within Kewaunee County.
As of September 8, 2017 no other fuel points in Kewaunee County were found to have been tampered with.
While this appears to have been an isolated incident and remedied immediately by the affected fuel point, it is always recommended that individuals monitor any and all transactions taking place on your personal credit and or debit cards. .
Businesses are being asked to take additional precautions to monitor their equipment and report any signs of tampering to your local law enforcement agency.
The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department has contacted all gas station owners in the area and the Door County Sheriff’s Department to keep a look out for other possible cases of skimming devices.
