Phone Scam Alert!

On Wednesday February 29, 2012 at 12:15 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department for a Fraud complaint. Upon arrival the complainant told Officers that he had received phone calls from the following numbers 876-853-4022 and 876-898-1717 claiming he had won some money.  The caller who had a European accent stated in order for the complainant to get the money they needed to pay an unknown sum of money for processing fees.  The complainant unknowingly sent money to the suspect and the suspect continued to ask for more money. Eventually the complainant asked for the callers address and name and the caller hung up. Officers investigated the matter further and found multiple instances of scams like this online. Officers also found out that the area code being used by the two numbers that were used in the scam were from Jamaica.
