Officers Respond To Attempted Break In At Vans Bar

This past Saturday around 3:40 AM, Officers were dispatched to Vans Bar for an attempted break in. Upon arrival Officers found the rear window of the business busted out by a cement cinder block. Officers were told by employees who were working in the business that someone had come to the rear door just prior to the window breaking and had knocked. Officers believe the employees scared the suspect away after the window had been broken. The owner of Vans Bar estimates the damage to the window and surrounding area to be about $400.00.

Officers are looking into whether the incident at Vans Bar is related to other thefts in the City mainly occuring on the west side.  Those thefts involved car windows being broken in order to gain access to valuables left in parked vehicles. As always if anyone has information on this incident or others please contact the Police Department at 920-746-2450 or if you wish to remain anonymous you can use the departments Confidential Web Tip Form located on the Police Departments website: http://www.sturgeonbaypolice.com/webtip.html  or click "Give A Tip!" on the Police Departments Facebook page

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Halloween is today Monday, October 31, 2011. Trick or Treating hours will be from 3PM to 7PM. We urge all who are trick or treating to follow some of these brief safety tips:
  1. Be familiar with the neighborhood you trick or treat in. Go only to homes with a light on.
  2. Go in pairs. There is safety in numbers.
  3. Look both ways before crossing the street.
  4. Make sure your child's costume can be easily seen at night. Decorate it with reflective tape so motorists and others can easily see them.
  5. Try to avoid having the child wear a mask with their costume or make sure the mask allows them to have a complete field of vision. Most masks limit the child's ability to see well and could be a factor in causing them to trip or run into low objects.
  6. Don’t eat candy that is not securely wrapped, or better yet, have a parent or older brother or sister inspect the candy before eating it.
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween.

Sturgeon Bay Police Department’s

2011 Click It or Ticket

Grant Results

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department has completed their participation in the 2011 Click It or Ticket grant program, which ran from October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011.  The $15,000 grant had two traffic safety components: $10,000 to cover wages and benefits for overtime traffic enforcement and $5,000 to cover a traffic related equipment purchase.

For their equipment purchase, the department bought a Panasonic Arbitrator 360 Mobile Digital Video System.  The in-squad video system allows the department to record traffic stops which proves to be a valuable piece of evidence in court, especially for drunk driving arrests.  This purchase now brings the total number of patrol squad cars equipped with this system to five, with only one patrol squad remaining to be equipped.

The grant money allocated for the overtime traffic enforcement, provided for 164 hours of extra traffic enforcement.  During those hours, officers made a total of 282 traffic stops with the following enforcement action taken:
