Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department is participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled over initiative from December 15 through January 1.

We encourage everyone to drink responsibly and if you choose to drink, use a designated driver or a cab.  During this holiday season, don't risk being arrested for OWI and don't risk endangering yourself and others on the road.  A safe holiday is a merry holiday!

The Wisconsin DOT offers a Drive Sober mobile app that includes a blood alcohol estimator, designated driver selector, and find-a-ride feature that uses a smart phone's GPS to locate alternative transportation.

And "Snow" It Begins

The forecast is "predicting" snow starting this evening which means drivers will have to learn how to drive again on those slick roads.  Reminder to give yourself extra time to get to your destination and don't follow to close to the vehicle in front of you in case you are unable to stop.  Although it may be fun, the Sturgeon Bay Police Department doesn't encourage decorating the roadways or parking lots with "donuts" or "cheerios".   Be safe and have a great weekend!

Unwanted Holiday Decoration

After hearing such a clatter a family dashed to the window to not find Santa and his sleigh, but instead a minivan decorating their house.  No one was injured and the juvenile driver may be received a lump of coal for Christmas.

Doesn’t matter how old you are, please remember to drive your “sleigh” with a valid driver’s license.  The Sturgeon Bay Police Department reminds everyone to be safe this holiday season.

Good Luck Hunters

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to wish all the deer hunters a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

Oops, Wrong Direction

Keep your eyes on the road, as the GPS doesn't always know best!

When it comes to driving, pay attention to the road and your surroundings.  Accidents happen from talking on the phone, looking at text messages, something dropping on the floor and picking it up, or looking at map or GPS even if it's for a split second.  Thankfully the driver of this vehicle was not injured.

Winter Parking Ban

It's that time of year again and we have seen a little snow already!  With that being said, it's time to starting thinking of the winter parking ban that is in effect as of December 1, 2017 and ends April 1, 2018.  On street parking is prohibited from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. during those months.

Special parking permit applications and information can be obtained from the City of Sturgeon Bay Municipal Services office at 835 N 14th Avenue.  Forms are also available online at www.sturgeonbaywi.org.  The information needed to complete the application is a name, address, license plate number, and vehicle information such as the year, make, model, etc.  Cost for a seasonal pass is $55.00 or $28.00 per month.  The cost of a parking ticket is $15.00 for each ticket cited to your vehicle and increases to $25 when the ticket has not paid by the due date.

If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the Sturgeon Bay Municipal Services Office Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. by calling 746-2914.  If you have questions regarding parking tickets, you may contact the Sturgeon Bay Police Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. by calling 746-2450.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Trick or Treat tips for kids:
  • Look both ways when crossing the street
  • Carry a flashlight, glow stick, or wear reflective strips to increase your visibility at dark
  • Make sure your costume is not dragging on the ground to avoid tripping
  • Do not enter any homes without your parents
  • Do not eat any candy until you get home to inspect it for sharp objects or opened wrappers that may be contaminated
  • HAVE FUN!
Tips for the parents:
  • Do not pass other vehicles that are stopped in the roadway as they are likely dropping or picking up kids.
  • Pay extra attention near crosswalks, intersections and along the side of the roadways as kids tend to get overly excited and dart out in the road for the house across the street
  • Drive under the speed limit for better reaction time
  • Do not use cell phones or electronic devices
The Sturgeon Bay Police Department wishes everyone a fun and safe Halloween!

Release: Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department

On September 7, 2017 the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that an electronic credit card reading device had been found at a fuel pump within Kewaunee County.

Upon arrival, officers where provided information that the device would have been installed sometime in the early morning hours of September 7th, and that the devices were installed on two different pumps at that location.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department along with all local law enforcement agencies have notified all fuel point services throughout Kewaunee County to determine the extent of this activity within Kewaunee County.

As of September 8, 2017 no other fuel points in Kewaunee County were found to have been tampered with.

While this appears to have been an isolated incident and remedied immediately by the affected fuel point, it is always recommended that individuals monitor any and all transactions taking place on your personal credit and or debit cards. .

Businesses are being asked to take additional precautions to monitor their equipment and report any signs of tampering to your local law enforcement agency.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department has contacted all gas station owners in the area and the Door County Sheriff’s Department to keep a look out for other possible cases of skimming devices.

Escaped Vehicle

Have you ever had that moment when you walk out of the store and can't remember where you parked?  The owner of this vehicle walked out of Wal-Mart knowing where the vehicle was parked, but to the surprise of the owner the vehicle wasn't there.  While the owner was shopping, the vehicle rolled backwards striking the fence and thankfully did not end up in the pond or strike any other vehicles.  The vehicle was in park when this occurred and was not occupied.  That ended up being one expensive shopping trip.
