National Police Week 2013: May 12 to May 18

This week from May 12th through May 18th is National Police week. National Police week was started in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, which designated this week in May as Peace Officers Memorial Day.

During this week tens of thousands of Law Enforcement Officers from across the nation will converge on Washington DC for remembrance and honor of their fallen comrades that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year there will be 321 fallen officers added to the nearly 20,000 other names permanently etched into the memorial’s walls. A local hero shot and killed on Christmas Eve, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena will also added to the Memorial Wall.

So if you get a chance this week or in the future please go ahead and Thank an Officer for the job that he or she is doing…it just could make that Officers day or even his or her week!
