Emergency Management
of Door County/Door County
Fire Chiefs Place
Temporary Ban on Open Burning
Sturgeon Bay, WI. July 16, 2012, Because of the recent
dry conditions and no significant
rainfall in the forecast, Emergency
Management of Door County (EM) with
cooperation with Door County Fire Chiefs has placed a temporary
ban on open burning effective immediately.
This temporary
ban of open burning is effective within the County of Door. This ban prohibits any open burning,
agriculture burning or similar legal fires until weather conditions improve. Extreme temperatures are expected later
this week with little to no rainfall will continue to create drier conditions and more need to protect
homes, families and properties from the exposure
to fire.
That means fire departments will not issue burn permits until conditions improve.
Burn permits already issued are no longer valid. This also includes campfires, burn barrels, and fireworks. Developed campgrounds will be
allowed to have attended campfires at their own risk.
• Issues a
ban on outdoor open burning
(including refuse burning) within Door County until further notice. This ban includes, but is not limited to:
• All campfires, except
for those in developed camping
areas. Campfires allowed
(but
not recommended) are those conducted
within a metal fire ring in developed camping areas (such as commercial campgrounds or designated camping areas within state or city, county, town or village parks)
and then only at the discretion of the camping area
owner and/or operator;and
• Debris piles, burn barrels, and prescribed or broadcast burns.
The open burning ban will remain in effect until
the Door County EM/Door County Fire
Chiefs have lifted
the Open Burning Ban. We urge all citizens
to follow this ban to
protect lives and property
within Door County.
