Phone Scam Alert!

On Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 3:49 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Green Bay Road for a phone scam. Upon arrival Officers found that the complainant had received numerous phone calls (20 to 30) per day stating he had won $2.5 million dollars. The caller named Scott asked the complainant to send $350.00 to a point of contact named Charlton Henry in turn they would send $250,000.00 dollars and the remainder of the money would be deposited shortly afterward into the complainants account. The caller stated the $350.00 would be refunded later on.  The complainant contacted Police shortly thereafter and never sent any money to the caller who was calling from a Jamaica area code.  Officers did make contact with the male who had been calling the complainant named Scott. Officers informed Scott about not contacting the complainant anymore. The number provided by Scott to Officers was disconnected when Officers attempted to contact him back.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never send money to anyone without knowing the person who you are sending it to. Make sure to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.
