On March 22, 2013 at 3:12 PM, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department reference a scam. On arrival Officers were told by the complainant that she had received numerous phone calls from:

  • (916) 623-5482 [Isleton, CA]
  • (407) 504-4095 [Florida]
  • (646) 396-7418 [New York, NY]
  • (816) 318-5198 [Belton, MO]
  • (323) 300-5367 ]Los Angles, CA]

claiming to be American Law Enforcement Officers and stating that the complainants social security number was under investigation. In order to fix the situation the caller states they need $200.00 to do so. During these attempts the callers would randomly read of social security numbers to the complainant. When the complainant failed to comply with their demands they stated the complainant would be sued. During the calls the caller spoke with a heavy accent, which made it difficult sometimes to figure out what the caller was actually saying. The complainant never sent out money or gave out personal information.

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department would like to remind everyone to never give out sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone unless you are positive you know who you are talking to is legitimate. Never hesitate to contact Police if you have questions or concerns over phone calls you are receiving.
