Officers Investigate Attempted Fraud

On Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 1:25 PM, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Michigan Street for a fraud attempt. Upon arrival Officers spoke to the complainant who stated an older male had come to her door selling advertising space on a Sonny's Restaurant place mat.  The complainant refused to buy ad space and the man then handed over an attached envelope. Within the envelope was a chain letter or pyramid scheme asking the reader to send $40.00 to one of the 2 people listed on the letter and then send out copies of the letter to 200 other people. Once done the reader would receive gas for life. In this case the complainant called Police and never gave any money or sent out any letters.

As always if it sounds too good to be true or if the situation sounds too far fetched...it probably is! Please contact the Police Department if you ever have any questions reference suspicious calls, mail, or any other incidents at 920-746-2450.
